JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Manager will work directly under the Commissary Director and help manage all staff and daily operations for the kitchen, packaging, distribution & logistics, as well as the office support for these areas. Key to the role will be positioning all operations for growth. On a daily basis you will help lead a team of approximately 11 employees, overseeing cooking, distribution, packaging training, quality control, recipe consistency & development and food safety. You will also be responsible for the successful packaging and execution of allergy meals, which requires close attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help manage growing kitchen staff of ~11 people including scheduling, staffing, new hires, etc
  • Oversee daily & weekly workflow, pace, efficiency of team & information flow
  • Ensure planning and prep for production is accurate, timely, efficient
  • Learn all recipes, techniques and procedures in LGG’s repertoire.
  • Manage recipes: fine tune, update, oversee and execute recipe testing, development of new techniques
  • Oversee proper kitchen protocol, including health and safety practices, LGG SOPs, logs and record keeping
  • Help develop and improve kitchen systems to meet company’s growth.
  • Be willing and able to take on new projects to support growth and efficiency
  • Report to the Kitchen Manager 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Restaurant / Food Manufacturing / High Volume Commercial Kitchen cooking experience and formal culinary training
  • Experience working with and sourcing local, sustainable & organic ingredients
  • Proven managerial experience 
  • Ability to anticipate workflow
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety, proper handling of food allergens and sanitation practices including NYC DOHMH, HACCEP, GMP’s, etc
  • Proactive, with ability to anticipate workflow and delegate tasks efficiently & timely
  • Strong communication skills are imperative, and being able to speak conversational Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Must be extremely well organized and have the ability to multitask
  • Must be reliable, function well within a team and work calmly and efficiently in a fast moving environment.
  • Must have NYC food handlers license, HACCP Certified is prefered
  • Must be high quality minded with great attention to detail
  • Computer Savvy: proficient in Excel/Google Sheets
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs and be on their feet at least 8 hours
  • Be able to work variable hours, including early mornings and occasional holidays

COMPENSATION 

This position is full-time SALARY position. The facility operates 6-7 days a week, daytime hours.

Compensation

this position is: salaried, 50k-75k
