Coastal Foodshed’s mission is to make it easier for people to buy local food and for farmers to sell it to the community. We accomplish this mission through our three programs: New Bedford Farmers Markets (NBFM), Mobile Farm Stands (MFS), and Learn to Love Local (LLL) cooking education.

Job description

The Mobile Farm Stand (MFS) has recently shifted its program to adapt to the current COVID-19 pandemic. We now offer an online ordering system with delivery and pick-up services in addition to a retail store version of our MFS on Thursday 12-5pm. We have relationships with over 40 different farmers and local food producers and are currently acting as a food hub- aggregating products and distributing them out into the community.

Coastal Foodshed is looking for a MFS Assistant to help with the general operations of the MFS and a team player who is willing to adapt with program changes as needed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting with:
• Packing, sorting, and aggregating products for delivery and pick-up services
• Processing delivery/pick-up orders for payments
• Driving truck and trailer (MFS) to neighborhood sites (TBD)
• Operating the retail store and other MFS remote sites while engaging current and potential customers to encourage them to try new products and help answer questions about products
• Promoting farmers and local food producers sold at the MFS
• Performing cash, credit, and EBT sales transaction
• Provide quality control and monitoring of produce
• Inventorying products
• Collecting data/feedback from customers (i.e. surveys)
• Attending Coastal Foodshed team meetings (ability for remote access), staff trainings, etc.

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills strongly recommended
• This position requires the employee to interact with persons of various socioeconomic backgrounds, farmers, and the general public
• Being multilingual is strongly encouraged (English, Spanish, Creole Portuguese)
• Experience in food and agricultural industry desirable or a willingness to learn
• Experience with sales transactions, and product merchandising desired
• Comfortable with technology and experience with iPads
• Ability to complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner and the ability to work both as a team and independently
• Must be able to bend and lift loads, up to 50 pounds.
• This position requires the employee to drive a company truck and a trailer when needed
• A valid MA driver’s license is required. Only candidates with a safe driving record
will be considered
• This position requires reliable transportation
• This position may require weekend work and early morning or late evening work

Compensation

this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $14.00 - $16.00
