The Workforce Development program offers opportunities for teens and young adults (ages 16–24) to develop professional skills to prepare them for long-term success in the workforce. Students work in one of four small businesses that provide training, job experience, and mentoring. Our businesses include a cafe, an urban farm, a screenprinting shop, and a woodworking shop. The Workforce Development Program is a part of Church Hill Activities and Tutoring (CHAT), a non-profit in the east end of Richmond Virginia that serves the youth of Richmond’s East End and equips them with the heart, head, and hands to make life-transforming decisions.

- <!--block-->Reports to the Store Manager
- <!--block-->Full-time, 35 to 40 hours/week; mid shift typically 11:30 am to 7:30 pm
- <!--block-->Pay $11-$13 per hour plus tips

<!--block-->Primary Responsibilities.
- <!--block-->Craft a phenomenal first impression to customers by providing a best-in-class customer service experience
- <!--block-->Consistently execute recipes correctly in order to produce beverages of the highest quality
- <!--block-->Operations: Protect employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment; Maintain accurate cash handling and follow proper protocol for securing store funds; Open and close the store, following the closing checklist; Manage and maintain shift changes and daily tasks through the use of checklists; achieve goals assigned by manager and utilize staff and resources available
- <!--block-->Communication: Communicate needs of customer and store to the Manager; Ensure availability of merchandise and services by communicating with the Manager; Maintain operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures; Maintain the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements; Identify current and future customer needs by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers
- <!--block-->Self-Development/Education: Execute program initiatives and ensure staff is knowledgeable in products; Personally commit to and actively work to continuously improve; Set example for staff through consistent performance and adherence to quality standards; Develop product knowledge for self and overall store through tastings
<!--block-->Qualifications and Experience Required
- 1+ year specialty barista experience
- Minimum availability of 30 hours per week
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships
- Ability to lift and or move up to 50lbs
- Previous experience with café POS systems
- Valid ServSafe certification or equivalent Food Handlers card
- Share a personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the vision and mission of CHAT
- An intentional and practiced commitment to serving and engaging in the community of Richmond’s East End.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, under $15/hr
