Company description
At Goodnow Farms, we make fine flavor, single origin dark chocolate. All of our chocolate is crafted in small batches on our 225-year-old farm in Sudbury, MA. We source our cacao through direct, equitable partnerships with farmers in Central and South America, and transform it into premium dark chocolate. We believe that great chocolate is “true to the bean” - by using beans sourced from only one farm or region we’re able to highlight the distinct flavor characteristics of that particular bean. Discovering those flavors is one of the joys of making (and eating!) single origin chocolate.
Experience is preferred but not necessary. We will train you as long as you're willing to commit to a long-term position.
Job description
This position involves all aspects of making chocolate and also includes inventory management, invoicing and preparing orders for shipping. This person also oversees a full-time kitchen assistant as well as the part-time workers responsible for wrapping the finished bars.
Daily responsibilities include the various steps required to make chocolate, including overseeing sorting, roasting, winnowing and grinding. Direct responsibilities include pressing cocoa butter and tempering/molding the chocolate bars as well as fulfilling orders and creating invoices.
This position requires someone who is very organized and proactive. There are many moving parts to the chocolate making process and keeping track of all of them, as well as being able to prioritize, is crucial. Must be able to create a schedule and communicate priorities and delegate effectively.
We are making a very high quality product so attention to detail is an absolute must!
We're a very small crew and are looking for someone who is inspired by the idea of making award-winning, single origin chocolate. We're looking for someone who is flexible, positive and outgoing. With chocolate making every day brings new challenges and you'll need to be able to overcome them.
Although there is a kitchen assistant to help with production you'll still need to wear many hats - for example, there are often lots of dishes to wash.
Hours are 9am - 5pm, Monday through Friday. As we are located in a residential neighborhood we do not work earlier or later and we don't work weekends.
There is quite a bit of training involved so we're looking for someone who is committed and willing to be here for the long term.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15/hr +
