Job description

GrowNYC is seeking a Program Coordinator to oversee Fresh Food Box, a collaborative buying program that allows members of underserved communities to leverage their group buying power to purchase fresh, healthy, local foods at below-retail prices. Reporting to the Director of Wholesale and Distribution, the Fresh Food Box Program Coordinator will be based at our offices at 100 Gold Street with frequent time in the field. The Fresh Food Box Program Coordinator will oversee a network of year-round and seasonal distribution sites, manage field staff, and work closely with Greenmarket Co., GrowNYC’s local food hub and wholesale distribution program.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage the operations, partnerships, budget and staff for 13-15 weekly Fresh Food Box distribution sites;
  • Hire, train, and oversee seasonal and year-round Fresh Food Box Site Coordinators who manage day-to-day stand operations;
  • Support existing and forge new collaborations with community-based nonprofit organizations, city and state agencies, community businesses, and other Fresh Food Box partners;
  • Track program income from Fresh Food Box shares and manage expenses including cost of goods sold, staff salaries, equipment, and supplies;
  • Liaise with Greenmarket Co. staff regarding product sourcing and demand, delivery logistics, schedules, and other operational details;
  • Create and implement outreach strategies to raise awareness about the Fresh Food Box program;
  • Maintain impeccable financial records showing individual market expenses and income in cash, credit/debit, and healthy food subsidies such as SNAP benefits and Health Bucks. (Note: GrowNYC’s Programs Assistant will be primarily tasked with data entry and administrative tasks related to financial records, but the Fresh Food Box Program Coordinator is expected to be proficient in the use of recordkeeping documents and procedures);
  • Ensuring that Fresh Food Box distribution sites are safe for staff, youth participants, and the public through compliance with operational plan and all relevant governmental regulations.

 

Requirements include:

  • One year of experience managing direct reports;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong initiative and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team;
  • Skilled at building partnerships, both internally and externally;
  • Ability to create and stay on budget
  • Creative, solution-oriented approach to problem solving;
  • History of successfully working with people from a variety of identity groups and backgrounds;
  • Ability to work occasional flexible hours including early mornings, evenings and weekends;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive;
  • Fluency in Spanish highly favorable;
  • Experience with order/inventory management software a plus;
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus;
  • Drivers’ license and satisfactory driving record a plus;
  • Genuine enthusiasm for Fresh Food Box’s mission to preserve regional farms and ensure that all New Yorkers have equitable access to fresh, high-quality food.

Compensation

this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $50,000.00 - $55,000.00
