Rock Steady Farm & Flowers is a women and queer-owned cooperative farm, rooted in social justice, growing specialty cut flowers and sustainable vegetables in Millerton, NY. We manage a total of 12 acres- 2 in flowers, 6 in veggies, and 4 acres of rotational cover crop. We have diversified customers including our CSA, restaurants, floral designers, food pantries, social justice non-profits, and special events in the Hudson Valley and New York City. Our farm is grounded in close partnerships with other land based projects, neighbors, and non-profits who are also working to build equity in our region and beyond.
We are a growing cooperatively-owned farm, with opportunities for equity for crew members after a trial period. Our current staff and returning crew are women, queer and mixed race people. Even though we do not limit applicants based on these demographics, it is important that the people who join our team are open towards a diverse community both at work and within our local community.
Job description
FLOWER MARKETING & SALES LEAD
The flower operation is hiring a new management level position for the 2019 season. We are looking for someone that has a passion for marketing, specialty cut flowers and is ready to collaborate with the current flower and veggie management team. We list below a broad set of skills that we are interested in, and anticipate that each applicant will have something different to bring to the table. We are flexible to include floral design and/or flower farming into this position to fill out the work week, based on skills, but the primary focus will be on building our flower wholesale business. We are flexible to this being a part-time position if there is the right candidate.
Skills and Desired Qualifications:
- Passion for marketing and sales with direct experience selling to and working with florists, designers, and/or brides/grooms. This includes managing communication around availability, orders, color palettes, delivery and vase life.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Skills to bring on new clients, designers (both upstate and in NYC), brides/grooms, and other wholesale accounts to the flower enterprise.
- Demonstrable experience in co-managing projects, enterprises, or businesses.
- Attention to detail - regarding crops, harvest and post-harvest handling, systems, record keeping and orders.
- Can stay focused and driven when working independently.
- Demonstrable commitment to organic/sustainable cut flower farming and building the local flower movement - especially of Hudson Valley flower farmers.
- Mature, self aware, good communicator. Positive attitude and sense of humor!
- Clean driver’s license.
This is a full time position, 40 hours/wk based on season/applicant. Primary focus is the 2019 growing season from April 15th - November. Compensation is BOE with the possibility of profit sharing / equity in the long run. Includes 5 paid vacation and 2 paid sick days and farm veggies.
