Job description

The Farmer Outreach Coordinator is charged with growing ALT’s efforts to protect farmland through tools such as conservation easements, the NRCS ACEP-ALE program, and effective farmland transition and land acquisition. Responsibilities include developing partnerships for effective farmland transitions, developing and facilitating educational programs related to ALT’s farmland protection efforts, maintaining the Georgia FarmLink website, and identifying and assisting farmers interested in acquiring land. Applicant should possess an understanding of structural racial inequality in relation to land access and tenure and the way policies, power, and race disproportionately affects land ownership.

 

Specific duties are as follows:

  1. Coordinate and supervise farmer outreach technical assistants to best assist and support farmers
  2. Manage GA FarmLink, connect with farmland seekers and owners to best serve their needs and engage partners in adopting GA FarmLink as a tool to serve Georgia’s farmers
  3. Finding farming opportunities and available farmland
  4. Identifying the structural barriers that inhibit access to land and find ways to get around the barriers
  5. Assist with monthly farmer network meetings
  6. Develop and conduct public educational meetings on farmland protection
  7. Identify and cultivate partnerships to better support farmland acquisition and transition
  8. Arrange 1-on-1 meetings and farm visits with farmers interested in acquiring land and facilitate conversations with them in order to best serve their needs
  9. Maintain records of activities and coordinate with the Conservation Director and other ALT staff as needed


Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of outreach methods, presentation techniques, provision of services and referrals. Possess knowledge of a broad range of farming service and assistance providers. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and to work effectively with partners and staff. Ability to use computer systems and the internet. A valid driver’s license and reliable insured transportation required.

Compensation

this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $30,000.00 - $40,000.00
