About the Farm-to-School Lunch Program
Last Fall Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School embarked on a Farm-to-School Lunch program featuring locally sourced organic and/or Biodynamic® vegetables, meat, and fruit.
Our Chef
We are pleased to welcome our new Farm-to-Table lunch program chef, Nicole LoBue. She is a chef, herbalist, and educator whose work has linked food as medicine, wellness, service and education in various collaborations, organizations, and in her own private practice. Nicole is excited to bring her practice to the Hawthorne Valley community and to have an opportunity to support the school’s priority of wholeness, health and social well-being in tandem with academic goals. She is looking forward to the possibilities of involving families and students and hopes to support the goals of rooting relationship between people and this inspiring region’s gifts.

Our vision is to make healthy, tasty, and nutritious food available to EVERY student at HVS.
Chef Nicole states, “Our aim is to make all of your children’s lunches delicious, nutritious and simple with highly customizable building blocks. Additionally, our goal is to prepare nutrient dense, nourishing and sustaining whole foods each week. We understand that each child has unique sensitivities, proclivities and tastes so our aim is to nourish bodies as well as please the senses.”

Position:
Prep cook/Sous chef for the Farm to school lunch program
Temporary position Starting April 1st-June 6th 2019
Monday-Friday
9:00 AM-3:30 PM daily @ Hawthorne valley school
Hourly rate :
Private contractor @ $17.00 per hour,
Farm to school Lunch Program, a Hawthorne valley association job
Responsibilities Include
Supporting the head chef with the preparation of daily meals and snacks, cooking, organization and some aspects of the service of lunch and snack for 130-150 students per day. Monday- Friday on all in session school days, until the end of the school year June 6th 2019. Some additional minimal support in preparations for student integrative experiences and interactions with the lunch program.
Applicants for this position will Ideally:
Be comfortable working around the children and faculty of the school and understand that this is a unique environment unlike most kitchen positions as we are part of the experience of the children and parents of the Hawthorne valley community.
Be willing and able to complete a background check
Understand the laws and requirements for safe food handling
Be kitchen literate and comfortable in a fast paced environment, have knife skills and be efficient in a kitchen setting.
Posses the ability to stand for the 6 + hour shifts and be able to lift at least 30#( we always lift heavy items together if possible).
Be well versed in professional cooking environments and have experience cooking in a professional setting as a prep chef and or sous chef.
Possess the ability to work well with others and be a team oriented worker.
Have strong communication skills and work ethic
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15/hr +
