Crossroads Community Farm, LLC began in 2005.  Located in the town of Cross Plains, Wisconsin, we are a family farm raising an abundance and great variety of organic vegetables every year. With 14 seasons under our belt, we take great pride in growing high quality produce.  We directly market our produce through our CSA and to various grocery stores and restaurants in the Madison area.

Job description

Crossroads Community Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm offering several full-time seasonal crew positions for individuals willing to work hard on our 20-acre farm.

Each field position has slightly different starting and end dates (see below for more details) though the nature of the positions are generally the same. A field position at our farm involves hard work with your body, as you help us to seed, plant, weed, and harvest vegetables. Full-time crew members work 40 hour weeks; part-time members work 20 hours per week. We work in the field in all weather conditions.

 

 Components of Job

  • Daily physical field work, including: greenhouse seeding, planting, row-covering, weeding, harvesting, washing, and packing
  • Working outside in all weather conditions
  • Working at a fast pace
  • Frequent heavy lifting of 25-50 pounds
  • Working with others in a crew
  • Taking and following verbal instruction

 

Desired Skills:

  • At least one full season on a vegetable farm or other farm experience
  • Ability to appropriately balance speed and quality of work
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions
  • Experience working with volunteers

 

Compensation: We believe in paying a living wage.  Pay starts at Madison’s 2019 Living Wage Rate, which is $13.27/hour.

Start/End Dates:

Full Season – 3 positions open. Average of 15hours/week from April-May with a ramp up to full-time by mid-May. Full-time work extends through October with decreasing hours into mid-November.

Short Season Early – 1 position. Full-time hours from mid-May through end of August.

Short Season Long – 2 positions open. Full-time from mid-June through end of September and sometimes into October.  Part-time hours might be a possibility.

Part-time – 2 positions open. Part-time (20hours) on Monday and Tuesday from mid-June through late Sept/early October.

 

Compensation

this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $13.27 - $16.00
