We craft delicious drinks, treat our guests with the utmost care and respect, bake cookies, clean up after ourselves, get change at the bank, and say please and thank you—and we want you to join our team, made up of a group of people who we believe to be the most talented, kindest, and hardest-working in the business.
WHO ARE OUR PEOPLE?
Our people are the kindest, most hard working and talented in the business. We’re an impossibly eclectic group of coffee experts, artists, writers, sensory scientists, bakers, designers, and all-around dreamers.
Job description
Blue Bottle is writing a new chapter to the story and traditions of coffee, food and hospitality, and our retail trainers are some of the first touch points in a Blue Bottler’s journey here. Exemplars of hospitality, our trainers create exceptional training experiences for our new team members so they feel empowered to create delicious drinks and delightful experiences for guests and team members alike on their first days. We are on the search for a trainer to join our Los Angeles team.
As a trainer you will organize, coordinate, facilitate, and conduct trainings for baristas, other internal staff, and the general public. You’ll also occasionally support research and development projects to continuously evolve and refine our materials.
This is a full-time, salaried position based out of Los Angeles and will report to our Regional Training Leader.
You will:
-
- Organize, coordinate and facilitate thoughtful and effective trainings for new and seasoned team members alike, focused on technical coffee skill, hospitality soft skills and Blue Bottle values
- Facilitate training content that is ever evolving (we believe in iteration!) and focused on Blue Bottle’s values, our approach to hospitality, collaboration, communication, and coffee
- Collaborate with retail managers to support in-cafe trainings, quality control and continued education for their teams, and ensure managers have an understanding of the strengths and opportunities of each of their team members for coffee and beyond
- Regularly visit cafes to assess and coach baristas, both on-bar and off-bar
- Work with our Learning & Development team to develop in-house training and educational materials and collaborate with lead baristas on barista training both in the lab and in our cafes
- Organize and conduct research and development projects for coffee and coffee equipment
- Travel to other regions/markets to support trainings and new cafe openings (up to two week increments at a time)
You are:
-
- A proud representative of Blue Bottle at all times. You are passionate about Blue Bottle’s vision and purpose --you value what we do (from product to people) and who we are (from guest to teammate)
- Always on top of your game: your espresso preparation, coffee brewing and milk skills are inspiring as is your dedication to creating delightful hospitality experiences. Not only this, you pursue your craft, using resources to learn how to better engage our new team members
- A self starter who fills time productively with limited supervision
- An exceptional communicator both written and verbal, for groups large and small: you love helping people navigate the unknown and making them feel comfortable in a new space by sharing the knowledge needed to be successful
- A kind teacher: you love sharing and imparting knowledge and meet people where they’re at
- A dedicated team player, nimble, and supportive: you’re flexible and accommodating, you do what it takes to help others succeed
- Excited by solving new and unconventional problems, and energized by helping to build things from the ground up
- Genuinely curious and daresay obsessive about coffee, food, hospitality, and team engagement
You have:
-
- 2+ years retail and/or customer service experience
- 2+ years specialty coffee or equivalent experience
- A love and respect of delicious coffee and food
A few benefits we offer:
-
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage for all full time employees and their dependents starting on their first day of work
- 401(k) plan
- Paid time off and parental leave
- Free drinks at any of our cafes and a complimentary bag of beans to take home each week
- Discounts on Blue Bottle food, merchandise, and other items such as additional bags of beans
