Job description
We are looking for someone who wants to make a positive change in the world! Purple Carrot provides plant-based (vegan) meal kits to help people lead healthier lives and positively impact the environment. We are a 3 year-old company that is growing rapidly and we need your help to get even bigger.
As the Senior Ingredient Buyer you will act as team lead for a team of buyers who are responsible for ensuring all ingredients are purchased and delivered on-time, on-budget, and of the highest quality. You will oversee the strategy and execution of an improved buying process, which includes the complexity of multiple meals across multiple production sites. Working with Operations and Culinary, you will ensure Culinary guidelines and targets are met. You should be excited to receive reports and track progress! We expect superior communication and organizational skills, experience in data management, dedication, resilience, and a willingness to learn on the fly. A successful candidate will be able to lead strategic buying activities across multiple partners, understand the weekly on-site needs, and be able to focus on the long-term goals.
Responsibilities
- Act as team lead to the Procurement team, including evaluating and building best sourcing and buying practices
- Manage onsite issues related to ingredient buying and quality at all fulfillment centers
- Assess weekly expected vs actual cost analysis and make recommendations to improve operations
- Generate and organize purchase orders and ensure on time delivery and order accuracy (quantity, specs, quality) for shelf-stable/pantry items, refrigerated, and frozen ingredient orders
- Follow orders from PO creation through delivery and portioning, communicating with on-site team about delays or shortages
- Track and understand yields and shrinkage of products to ensure proper ordering quantities
- Update Sourcing team on supplier performance relating to quality in products, delivery, and accuracy. Make recommendations when new sources are needed
Position requirements:
Experience
- 4-6 years supply chain management, ingredient buying/sourcing, or CPG/retail operations experience. Food industry experience required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Ability to use data and reports to make decisions, identify problems and improve buying process
- Experienced in and comfortable using Google Sheets, Excel, and other systems
- Experience managing a team a plus
- Able to report to Needham, Massachusetts headquarters
- Able to travel up to 10%
