There are five distinct but interrelated components in the model: land access, new markets, trainings and capacity building, financing, and research and data collection. What makes HAFA’s model unique is that it works with cohorts of experienced Hmong farmers and employs community organizing tactics to truly get at systems change.

HAFA is hiring a Farm Project Assistant to facilitate HAFA’s Alternative Markets Program. HAFA’s rapid growth is creating an opportunity to reorganize and become more effective. The position will be stationed half of the year at the HAFA Farm, a 155 acre incubator and research vegetable farm located in Vermillion Township, Minnesota just 20 minutes outside of Saint Paul.
The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, organized, and outgoing with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral Hmong communication skills.
Responsibilities
-Assist Procurement Specialist to facilitate conversation Hmong to English (vice-versa) with Hmong farmers;
-Document the results of the conversations in terms of expectations, and deliverables from either party;
-Document learning to improve next season farmer & food hub service;
-Create an inventory of Hmong terms useful for the HAFA team;
-Assist the program team during packing of produce and loading it for delivery;
-Assist in visitor tours and volunteer days.
Requirements
-A Hmong & English speaker,
-Understand and know farming terms in Hmong or have interest to learn,
-Personable and easy to get along with people of all ages especially elder Hmong farmers,
-Like the outdoors and to walk,
-Experience in documentation,
-Open to learning about sustainable agriculture and food hub operations.
