The NYC Food Book Fair is the world’s first event aimed at bringing together food publications from around the globe. Exhibitors will include publishers small and large and will feature cookbooks, memoirs and magazines addressing diverse topics including science, food systems, agriculture, urban design, food art and culture.  The premier event for industry professionals, tastemakers and connoisseurs passionate about innovation in food, the Food Book Fair will attract food enthusiasts, publishers, book collectors, chefs, artists, writers, designers and curators. Book signings, curated panel discussions and food happenings with local and international chefs are among the events planned for the first annual NYC Food Book Fair.  

What We’re Looking For:

We are looking to fill this position immediately and ideally with someone who can commit to a minimum of three days per week. The ideal candidate should be thrilled by the idea of being an essential part of a small, all-star team in a start-up environment. She/he is comfortable wearing many hats and getting involved in any and every aspect of the Food Book Fair as needed.  Availability to work the Fair (May 3-6th, 2012) is a plus (for us both!).  

The Communications and Outreach Intern should be extremely social media savvy – with particular attention to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr. Knowledge of other social media and crowd sourcing platforms is helpful (Kickstarter, Pinterest and Instagram). She/he should also have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs and Gmail. She/he should love to create relationships and make connections via the web and have excellent written communication skills and an enthusiastic disposition that can be identified through a blog post. She/he should be excited about learning the ways of outreach, promotion, and information sharing when it comes to a large-scale, very awesome event.  

Responsibilities:

  • Using Facebook, Twitter, and other Social Media feeds to promote the Food Book Fair
  • Developing custom web and blog content
  • Drafting and editing outreach materials
  • Helping to research potential event partners and promotional opportunities
  • Helping to maintain outreach contact databases
  • Working with Food Book Fair executive team with any and all aspects of the execution of the NYC Food Book Fair 

Compensation/Work Environment:

  • 10am-5pm 3 days/week in Greenpoint, Brooklyn (20 hrs a week)  
  • Unpaid but with an incomparable opportunity to connect with scholars, chefs, writers and people elbow-deep in the food industry and gain extremely valuable knowledge essential to success in food-related and other start ups  
  • There will, of course, be lots of delicious food that we will feed you at any given opportunity
