After a successful pilot program in 2011, the Martha's Vineyard Farm Apprentice Cooperative has teamed up with Island Grown Initiative, a local agricultural non-profit, to expand the program to more farms for 2012.  This year, we are looking for six to eight apprentices to work at the following farms:

• The GOOD Farm: Pastured poultry, turkey, pigs, permaculture
• The Grey Barn and Farm: Certified organic dairy and creamery
• Morning Glory Farm: Large mixed vegetable farm
• Cleveland Farm: Pastured poultry, eggs, turkeys, pigs, permaculture
• Bluebird Way Farm: Cut flowers and specialty vegetables Mermaid Farm: Dairy, creamery, and mixed vegetables

The essential idea behind our collaboration is this - we are all need help, so we've decided to pool our resources to hire and house apprentices. This apprenticeship is pretty unique in that you will get to experience different farm operations in a season, and will be exposed to many different business models.  The small size of the island and our collaborative agricultural community provide new farmers with an unusually rich and diverse learning environment.  

The terms are as follows: guaranteed housing (defined as a bedroom with access to kitchen and a bathroom), food stipend (varies depending on which farmer you work for), and a monthly stipend of $600.  The season runs from early May until the end of October. A more complete job description is available via email.
