Company description

At Stone Pier Press, our mission is to foster the transition to a food and farming system that's good for people and the planet. Our books respond to the crisis of an agricultural system that contributes significantly to global warming, perpetuates poor human health, relies on animal cruelty and depletes natural resources. Working at the intersection of sustainable agriculture, animal welfare and the good food movement, we highlight solutions and problem-solvers to help readers move to a more planet-friendly diet.

Internship description

Do you have a way with words - and images? An ability to whip up tremendous enthusiasm for an event or project? The desire to create and lead your own marketing campaigns or contribute to editorial content and design?

If so, we'd love to hear from you. We're Stone Pier Press, and our mission is to publish books that build a more climate-friendly, humane, and equitable food system. By publishing stories that are entertaining and inspirational, we want to remind folks that the food choices we make have a direct impact on the health and well-being of our planet and our communities. Our books also highlight solutions to the problems of the current food system.

We have a traditional publishing distributor, which is how our books will end up in bookstores. But we're also aligning with environmental, humane, and social justice organizations to co-promote each title and get our books into as many hands as possible.

Job descriptions:

Marketing Intern: We need a smart, creative, and energetic soul to take over and grow our social media channels. This can include Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It can also include creating a weekly digest of good food stories. The marketing job will eventually expand as our books near their launch dates, but at this stage in the game we mostly want to become a presence in the publishing and good food space.

Editorial Intern: We need help developing book ideas, researching potential authors and curating content. You could also contribute as a News Fellow, spreading the word about the good food movement to our audience and beyond.

The pluses: We're small which means you can be involved in as much of the publishing business as you'd like. We'll be working with editors to develop manuscripts, raising money from potential donors, and building a presence in the good food space. We'll also be doing market research on prospective books and developing budgets for each title. Finally, we'll be working with our partners to help them promote their own good food messages. You can be part of all of this, or just focus on marketing and/or editorial - whatever works for you.

The nitty gritty: This is a 12-15 hour a week job and the hours are flexible. Ideally the Fall job would begin in mid-August and run until mid-December, but start and end dates are negotiable. We're in San Francisco but you can work from anywhere. We mostly work remotely and meet weekly. Finally, this is an unpaid internship, for now. In exchange for your efforts, we offer professional development and training opportunities in editorial writing and marketing.
