LET'S FACE IT: there are a lot of things in this world that can make you take pause. You can't make it a whole day without being bombarded with some sort of sad news - the turmoil in fill-in-the-blank area of the world (Ferguson, Iraq, Ukraine, Gaza), natural disasters wiping through whole communities at a time (floods, fires, and viruses), humans hurting each other and the environment, and (surprise, surprise) politicians aren't getting along.
When you add these to the personal hardships you might face - in romantic relationships, monetary struggles, feuds with family members, or an unhappy work situation - the comparison (i.e. other people are suffering more) only seems to make you feel worse (usually guilty for not being appreciative for how good you have it).
So what is 'the answer'? ... scroll down to continue reading

details / The #gogastrognomes journey is our biggest and best instagram contest yet. For the past four years, the gastrognomes have been profiling inspiring and unlikely food professionals on our blog. Although the blog has been an integral part of connecting the Good Food Jobs community, the gnomes are always struggling with the question of how to connect to more people, both in person all around the world. As we all know, it’s easy to get stuck behind a computer screen... So the gnomes have decided its time to head out on the open road to meet the people that have contributed to the blog, and hopefully see some new, inspiring people and places. And they need your help to get there. Click here to learn more.
prize / A first, second and third prize will be given out based on creativity, effort, artistry and crowd response. To learn more, visit goodfoodjobs.com/gnomes.
deadline / TBD. The contest will be ongoing through the fall, so keep your eyes peeled for gnomes and join the fun!

continued from above ... If you're not sure, you're in good company. Everyone goes through struggles, and all struggles can involve real hardship. When we accept / process / work through those struggles, then we can do our best to make changes based on the things we can control (or at least accept responsibility for). We can all realize that wherever you are is the entry point to help contribute. And that when you take care of yourself, you are better equipped to help care for others.
In light of all the things that can get you down, an interest in food might seem frivolous in comparison to other ways in which you can save the world. But always remember that cooking is what connects us, and the more meals that are shared, food that is grown, and people that can sit down, look each other in the eye, and have an honest conversation, the more we'll be able to heal the deep rifts that appear to be plaguing our human race.
Your companions,
Taylor & Dorothy
