WE CAN'T SHINE... without darkness.
This is an unfortunate fact. Because there are indeed days when we wish for an extra dose of light. It's the middle of January, and where we live in the northeast US, the days are getting longer - but it doesn't feel like it yet. The wind is still strong, the snow keeps falling, and the temperatures oscillate back and forth from bone chilling to face numbing.
These weather patterns seem to parallel (or at least reflect) our life experiences. They seem to deepen and exaggerate the darkness.
But it's also in these dark days where we spend time inside, in front of our computers. And at the stove, cooking. And tackling projects that we have neither the time nor desire to do when the sun shines until 9 PM. It's when we catch up on sleep. And reading. And movies. It's when we create to do lists. And start and finish projects. And quietly prepare our plans for brighter days.
We wish that we could shine without the darkness. And have the pleasure without the pain. And that the sweet would be just as sweet without the bitter.
But we've not been able to just yet, and perhaps that's not the point. Whether you are finding a new job, or finding some other purpose in your life, trying to close a deal, or building something new, whether you are trying to make change, trying to be heard, or trying to help others be heard - just know that there will be some darkness. That is where we will look out for you to shine.
Your companions,
Taylor & Dorothy
