Job description

The Putney School Summer Programs has an opening for an experienced teacher to create curriculum and teach two, three-week sessions on the school farm in Vermont in the summer of 2015. We are seeking an educator who will make use of farm practices and environmental studies to create and teach our summer Farm Workshop.

There is wide latitude in the creation of this farm, food & sustainability curriculum. Resources from The Putney School farm are available, including access to study the 35 head dairy herd, the various animals in the small animal barn, fields, gardens and woodlot. The curriculum must have its own integrity, independent of oversight by the school's farm managers. Experience teaching and working with teens is expected.

The Farm Workshop class meets 5 days a week M-F, 9am - noon for two three-week sessions. Generally 10 students enroll in each session. Outside of class time, leadership and participation in early a.m. chores, special events and trips, and support for the residential program is expected.

Dates of employment: noon Wednesday, June 24 through 2pm Saturday, August 8, 2015. Room and board provided.

Compensation: $3,000.
