Good Food Jobs is a gastro-job search tool, designed to link people looking for meaningful food work with the businesses that need their energy, enthusiasm, and intellect. We post opportunities with farmers and food artisans, policy makers and purveyors, retailers and restaurateurs, economists, ecologists, and more.
ON THE WEB
Our job search engine is a work in progress. Check out these and other web developments on goodfoodjobs.com :
Yes, we are finally cookin' with fire in regard to getting these web glitches fixed! Here's a short list of important updates:
- when searching jobs by state, you can find all relevant listings by using either the full state name OR the abbreviation in the location keyword box;
- you can now easily search for jobs 'Outside of US';
- the footer now reflects more accurately what we have to offer in terms of content site-wide;
- and a whole slew of visual edits / fixes!
We hear you loud and clear on bringing back the regional search map, and are putting on our thinking caps to determine how / where we can best integrate it with the new search features.
In the meantime, if you notice any issues, new or old, don't hesitate to let us know. We are continually working to make the site better.
Do you have a recommendation? Constructive criticism? Or have you noticed a glitch? Let us know. And stay tuned for more updates. We're always scheming.
NICE THINGS PEOPLE SAY
You and your team have done such a great job in making your site more than just a job search engine. GFJ inspires people to follow their heart and helps cultivate their courage to do so.

I am in love with your site and your blog and follow it regularly from over here in Western Australia.

Yes, January has proven to be a 'start and stop' month. We started off strong with the launch of the long-awaited site re-design (along with praise from folks who love the 'fresh / grown up' look). Then we dealt with the inevitable aftermath of said changes - lots of bugs and glitches to fix (plus feedback from frustrated users who wished to have the old search back, or didn't care for nuances of our new graphic design).
It was slow going as we plugged away with web testing, and our web developers have finally been able to fix some of the issues that we identified. We are not done yet (and never will be - see our list of newly up-and-running features in the left sidebar), but rest assured that we are working away at the following:
- Browser Back button issues. We're working on finding a solution. In the meantime, be sure to use the 'Back to Search Results' button when viewing a job listing, which will take you back to the place in your search results where you left off.
- Homepage blog slideshow. No, we are not leaving old photos up on purpose! Please stay with us as we update the back end of the site and create a way to get the latest blog profile up on the home page each week.
- Job Editing functions. We hope to have this feature back up and running smoothly for job posters ASAP.
If you have anything to add, let us know. We are so appreciative for the feedback. And we are truly sorry, once again, for any delay. We appreciate your patience as we strive to create a continually better site.
In the meantime . . . JOIN US OFF-LINE
We've been scheming for a few years about Good Food Jobs in the greater sense. Yes, at it's most basic it is an online job search engine. But we are always asking ourselves: How can we get action online to translate to INTERACTION offline?
We've entertained a lot of ideas, but we are taking the advice we often dole out, and just DOING SOMETHING to get started.
A visit with our web developers in Brooklyn (yes, we're hammering out our 2014 web agenda!) on Wednesday February 5th, means that Dorothy and I will be together in NYC.
And we want to meet some GFJ users. It will be an informal gathering, with no set agenda - so bring to the table any questions or topics that are important to you. It's a chance for us to meet you and to share something delicious. Here are the rules:
- Our meeting will take place on Wednesday February 5th, from 10 AM - 12 PM in Brooklyn, NY. We will send the location details to the first 6 people that RSVP.
- Sorry folks, we are only accepting RSVPs from people that we have not met in person yet. You know who you are!
- You have to commit. We know how tempting it is to make reservations at TWO places, just to cancel one the night of; or ditch a plan when something better comes along; or vow not to leave your apartment because another polar vortex has descended upon the city. For this appointment: no last minute excuses (unless it really is urgent - we're not totally militant). Please don't RSVP unless you fully intend to join us.
We're looking forward to meeting you.
But in case you are still too shy for an in person meet-up, you can always participate in our latest . . .
GFJ Instagram Challenge
We've already received 40+ posts with some tough competition and endless ideas for your reading list. But it's not too late to add your recent reads. Tag your photo with #GFJreadinglist and the entry with the most likes circa 8am on Tuesday February 4th gets a copy of two of our favorites - Full Moon Feast: Food and the Hunger for Connection (Taylor's old favorite) and Yes, Chef: A Memoir by Marcus Samuelsson (Dorothy's latest obsession).
Happy reading,
Taylor & Dorothy

Mary's story touches on an issue of the food system that is near and dear to all of us - the lack of connection between children and what they eat. Whether we have our own children or not, we were ALL a child once. It is easy, as the daughter of a farmer, to take for granted knowing exactly where your food comes from, and it was the shock of seeing a different perspective that spurred Mary to make a change in children's education - specifically, food education.
