As much as we try to stop - or at least slow down - the ticking clock of time . . . it just keeps on passing (Taylor has never been more keenly aware of this than on today, her 30th birthday). And while we can't delay it, we can make the most of it. The only choice we have for positive progress is to build on what we know, continually gain new experiences, implement what we learn, and evolve over time.
In reference to food jobs, one of our favorite examples of mindful evolution happened at Blue Hill at Stone Barns. When we were launching Good Food Jobs over three years ago, they were about to launch a new program of their own. They were having a hard time recruiting front of house employees for their Pocantico Hills location - any of the folks that they desired for the position much preferred the urban environs of their Greenwich Village location in NYC.
So they tried something new: they introduced the F.A.R.M.S. Apprenticeship (which stands for FRONT of house APPRENTICESHIP for RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT and SERVICE). The 6-month program included four days in the restaurant and one day exploring the farm operations. What was originally a hard-to-recruit-for position became a sought after opportunity. They used their incredible asset (the farm in their farm-to-table establishment) to their advantage.
Since then, the F.A.R.M.S. Apprenticeship has continued to evolve. See the latest iteration of this paid apprenticeship on Good Food Jobs now.

In.gredients
Don't we all wish that our local grocery store looked a little bit more like in.gredients? Unless of course you are a resident of the Austin, Texas neighborhood where it's actually located, in which case: we are jealous. And we can understand why Chelsea sought them out and made contact before she had even moved to Austin. It's a good reminder that making connections with places that inspire us is always worth your time and energy - you just never know what might happen. Read More
