We post opportunities with farmers and food artisans, policy makers and purveyors, retailers and restaurateurs, economists, ecologists, and more.
the gastrognomes is a blog for food lovers who want to put their passions to work. We profile the most interesting, engaging, and unlikely food professionals that we find, and we publish them here to inspire you.

STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES
Sometimes we're so caught up in day-to-day life that we forget about the big picture. When we sat down this week to recap what's been going on with our third partner (the website), we realized it's something to talk about.
As of yesterday, and since the site launched in October 2010, we've amassed:
-
1.1 million visits
-
3.3. million pageviews
-
265 thousand unique visitors
-
nearly 4,600 job posts
We've also made some significant functional changes to the site in the past few weeks, including:
for JOBS SEEKERS
-
You can now search opportunities according to whether they are paid or unpaid. Try it out.
-
Drumroll, please: you can change your own password. Click on the 'Account Info' tab under 'My Account'.
for JOB POSTERS
-
In the 'My Account' section you can easily see how many times your current job posts have been viewed.
-
The email address associated with your job post is now anonymized, which means more privacy for you, and the ability to see which applicants come to you through GFJ.
-
Position Filled? Congratulations! Now you can quickly designate it as such using the handy dandy button next to each current job post in 'My Account'.
-
On a deadline? Make it abundantly clear to your applicants that time is of the essence by filling out the new 'Deadline' section when you post a job.
It's a continuous process, but we're always looking for the next big improvement. Rest assured that there are several more in the pipeline already, but that doesn't mean our suggestion box is closed. Do you have any ideas?
Cheers,
Taylor & Dorothy

Gilt Taste
If you're anything like us, you were following the trail of Ruth Reichl's career after her exit from Gourmet Magazine as closely as some of us (I'm not saying who) are following the TomKat divorce. When Ruth signed on as Editorial Advisor at Gilt Taste, we figured that the online food purveyor was worth taking a closer look at, and that's when we met Whitney, whose job is enviable for a vast number of reasons. We'd count them, if we weren't so busy reading the tabloids - I mean, news. Read More
