Good Food Jobs is a gastro-job search tool, designed to link people looking for meaningful food work with the businesses that need their energy, enthusiasm, and intellect. We post opportunities with farmers and food artisans, policy makers and purveyors, retailers and restaurateurs, economists, ecologists, and more.
the gastrognomes is a blog for food lovers who want to put their passions to work. We profile the most interesting, engaging, and unlikely food professionals that we find, and we publish them here to inspire you.
NICE THINGS PEOPLE SAY
You guys are already of great help in providing space for a community of food folk and wandering job seekers. I look forward to the weekly emails, checking on new job listings, and generally seeing how the field of good food work is broadening and defining itself.

THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES
Last Tuesday night, while exploring more of the complexity behind last Tuesday's newsletter, we got the same results - someone cried in front of us.
This time, a 13-year-old was part of the audience, and when she let out a yelp of 'Don't cry,' we asked her why not. Her response was real and honest: it's uncomfortable to see people cry. In our culture we often shy away from sharing feelings of pain, sorrow, confusion, or strife. We focus on celebrating the good times, even when we don't actually feel like there's anything 'good' about life.
Here at GFJ we like to think a little differently. And thanks to your willingness to share your own stories of struggle, we created a blog that we hope will bring our community together in good times and bad. You can read everyone's stories at whyicried.wordpess.com (see excerpts below).
LOST
"As I get older and older I realize that I don't have a clear dream. I have spent my entire life dabbling, being good at many things but never outstanding at one thing. How do I choose, how do I make this decision."
"My first 20 adult years I spent in an office, working up to a sizable 401(k), five weeks paid vacation with a whopping twelve paid holidays!!! I was able to buy a house on my own, do some traveling and live a pretty fortunate life, but something was missing. One day I decided I HAD to make a change; I just didn't fit in this office, this atmosphere, and I felt like something in me was dying a little every day. How many people feel this way? I'm betting millions!"
AND FOUND
"No transformation is simple and there are difficulties no matter which path we choose, so we should truly follow our hearts."
"...here's to the unsureness, the journey, and all we learn along the way. I'm trying to follow the inner voice guiding me, listening carefully and trusting in the Now."
If you were feeling shy last week, it's not too late to share. Celebrate your struggle. Send us your story.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Taylor & Dorothy

Eve Turow
Freelance Food Writer
Eve's story reminds us how easily we can find ourselves getting in the way of our own dreams. But trying to adjust your attitude and 'think positively!' when you're out of work, or up against any obstacle at all, really, is easier said than done. What does help is to hear from someone who faced her fears and overcame them, and because the worst part about inspiration is that it wears off eventually, we'll be here next week (and the week after), too.
