Well, we're almost 1 year old and it's humbling to know that we always have more to learn. So we're here to learn it.
Last week we sent out an email to our list of just over 12,000 newsletter subscribers. We had an important message - and a grand experiment. We hoped that we could ignite a viral show of support for a small food business that we believe in - The Green Cup in Waitsfield, VT - which suffered severe damages from the tropical storm Irene.
Of the 12,000 recipients (36% of which opened your email) only 80 clicked on our donate link. We're grateful for those 80, and we're also grateful to those who forwarded it along and did indeed make the $4 donation (there were about 64 of you).
And we hate to say it because we truly love our GFJ community . . . but 64 $4 donations wil not rebuild The Green Cup, or any of the other businesses that perished in the storm. In order for our scheme to work, we literally need thousands of $4 donations. We need the entire community to come together. It's not about a few individuals donating more funds . . . it's about more individuals making small donations. After all . . . small change can make a huge difference.
Do you think we can do it? Do you have suggestions for how? Do you have questions about The Green Cup? Is there anything you'd like to know that could help encourage you or others to donate? Do you haev an alterante idea that might be more effective? We want to hear from you. We are always open to learning how we can do more good and want to work together to make it happen.
Don't have $4 to spare? How about 4 minutes? Post this link ( http://www.goodfoodjobs.com/blog/good-food-jobs-the-green-cup-hurricane-relief-effort/) to your blog, Twitter, FB, email address book, snail mail, bulletin board, or any other place that you think it will do some good.
We appreciate your insight, enthusiasm, and expertise.

Erika Brenner
Farm & Educational Coordinator
Dekalb Farm
This gastro.gnome lives up to her title. While Erika does literally work with food - running the Farm at Dekalb Market - she came at it from an unlikely angle: economics. While her college cohorts are likely working on Wall Street, she chose food as her format and she's been making an active change in how and what people eat ever since. The credo of the market rings true for her and for us - promoting entrepreneurs, quality, community, and sustainability. If you're as obsessed with Erika as we are, track her down at the weekly market; you can find her at the tasting table and ask her for sound advice on your own good food job. Read More
