We hope this email finds you well - dry, well fed, and you and your loved ones fully recovered from Irene. We are fortunate to say that everyone at GFJ got off easy - we have power, our gardens didn't flood, and our families are all fine (save a few days without electricity . . . but it makes you really appreciate the creature comforts when they are gone).
But we recognize that not everyone else was as lucky. Our thoughts go out to all those who suffered in the storm. We urge everyone to lend a hand in the coming weeks to help those in need get off their feet - be it helping with debris cleanup or showing your support with regular patronage once your favorite spots re-open (a note to The Alchemist: we anxiously anticipate your return and will frequent your new Cannery in the meantime!)
This past week was a reminder that the planet is fragile but Mother Nature is powerful. It was also a reminder to us at GFJ that this community we're building is about bringing people together - to pick up branches and push cars out of the mud - and about healing and transforming our only home. It's never too late to start thinking about how your daily work can make an impact. To that end, check out some unique, potentially life-changing opportunities below...
We'll see you in September.

Kristina Sacci
Freelance Package Designer
Self-Employed
Kristina has a lot going for her, including that delicious smile. She's bright and optimistic, and wasn't afraid to turn a mundane activity (watching the telly) into inspiration for her life's work. While many of us dream of being the next Food Network star, Kristina simply dreamed of channeling her talents toward her passion. It's paying off in part due to her ability to follow a path without being entirely sure where it leads, and that type of courage is our own source of inspiration. Read More

GOOD FOOD JOB HIGHLIGHTS
and over 400 other active jobs, too . . . see the full website for the latest.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Today we featured three "jobs" noted as internship/apprentice or "other" positions. We recognize that not everyone can work for free, but we also think there is great value in what many of these small businesses/organizations are offering, beyond monetary compensation. As we continue to build a community based on a shared passion in rebuilding our food culture - both in business and in life - we hope that you'll welcome the chance to learn about these unconventional opportunities. Let us know what you think.
ICE CREAM PRODUCTION INTERN
Van Leeuewen Artisan Ice Cream
Brooklyn, NY
This internship doesn't pay money, but if you are like us, and devote a portion of your weekly salary to ice cream cones, it will definitely pay off.
FARMER-IN-RESIDENCE
Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association
Unity, ME
It's a fact: we need more small sustainable farmers. MOFGA is doing their part to make it happen. Entry into this program affords you land and resources to farm for a year - including a $3000 stipend and the opportunity to keep the money from what you grow/sell.
FARMERS/SUCCESSOR HOMESTEADERS
Private Property
Ithaca, NY
This is a new type of 'job' for GFJ, but it's a concept we wholeheartedly support. Let the last generation of homesteader transfer knowledge to the next generation. There's plenty of cultural wisdom to be shared.
