The Southport General Store and Barn is located on Southport Island near Boothbay Harbor, Maine. We are a classic local Maine destination offering an extensive food menu with a focus on scratch made sandwiches, pizza, soups & salad, beer/wine, groceries, provisions. A separately managed Maine made retail store & workshop space complete our campus.

Southport Island and the Boothbay region provide an immersive New England coastal experience. The Southport General Store is the central hub of a very special local community that is Southport Island. We are situated at the Township’s roundabout near the local elementary school, post office, and fire house. We are right in the middle of all the activities for the town including: 4th of July parade, annual fireman’s auction, a 5K race, and are walking distance from a public beach. We offer a host of outdoor as well as indoor seating options that fill up during these wonderful events. As with most of the region, the summer is our busiest time of year.

The Southport General Store is seeking a professional and hospitality focused Front of House Manager to ensure a consistently memorable experience at the Southport General Store by taking ownership of all in-store operations, product selection, vendor relations and store aesthetics. The ideal candidate should have experience in retail specialty food and beverage including managing customer and vendor relationships, managing inventory, and merchandising. The Front of House Lead will also work closely with other members of the management team to ensure proper staffing, operational efficiency, and store cleanliness. Qualifications:

• Is community minded and provides excellent hospitality to all customers, team members, and vendors 
• Previous experience in grocery/retail management, including beer & wine program management 
• Strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills, computer literacy and experience working with POS systems, Excel, and basic graphic design platforms
• Has a working knowledge of common retail sales metrics, including how to analyze and report
• Experience receiving, processing, and merchandising in a grocery retail setting

Responsibilities:

• Purchasing, managing inventory, and maintaining vendor relations of a wide range of grocery items chosen to fulfill a range of customer needs
• Responsible for aesthetics of store including attractive merchandising, cleanliness and organization
• Along with Chef and HR, manages staff to ensure smooth daily operations 
• Participates in floor work including food preparation, stocking, receiving, cashiering, and merchandising. Functions as a senior authority during store operating hours
• Participates in weekly Manager Meetings for ongoing data analysis, and to create and maintain standard operating procedures to meet the needs of the business
• Maintains expert working knowledge of POS operations

Other Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50lbs from the ground
• Ability to stand for up to 8 hours at a time
• Use mechanical kitchen equipment and sharp cutting tools, knives, and cleaning supplies
• Perform physical activities that require moving one’s whole body, such as lifting, balancing, stooping or bending
• As Summer is our busiest time of year, must have open availability from June-September

Compensation & Benefits:

This position is a full-time, hourly position. Compensation is dependent upon experience. The Southport General Store provides a 20% discount on all store products. Benefits include Medical Insurance, Retirement Plans, and Paid Time Off.
