About the Role

Reporting directly to the Senior Seafood Category Manager, your execution will have an integral part in determining the member experience.  You will work closely with all members of the Procurement & Food Safety team to ensure the seafood keeps flowing from its origin until it reaches the fulfillment centers. 

You think quickly on your feet, are nimble, organized and highly analytical. As Seafood Buyer, you will work with the established Alaska seafood suppliers and processors.  This includes executing tactical purchases along with coordinating with the Logistics Category Manager and Senior Fulfillment Manager to ensure that product is placed properly at the Fulfillment Centers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with the Senior Seafood Category Manager to issue purchase orders and coordinate the weekly shipments to Fulfillment Centers with the suppliers and processors.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate supply at each Fulfillment Center. .
  • Communicate with suppliers and processors to obtain product knowledge and an understanding of the dynamics of the industry.  
  • Continue to enhance supplier relationship management with key players in the fishing industry from harvest to processing.
  • Develop overall knowledge of Wild Alaskan’s seafood product specifications, sourcing model, seasonality and product variations as well as value-added seafood items.
  • As directed by the Senior Seafood Category Manager, continue to build relationships and execute Fisher Direct Program to increase WAC’s ability to source products from Fishers.
  • Coordinate with seafood processors to communicate future Wild Alaskan Company’s production needs and ensure timely completion.
  • Work cross-functionally with the internal WAC team regarding product needs.  This includes interaction with Operations, Finance, Data, Product and Marketing.
  • Work with FSQA to ensure required documentation is current for suppliers and production facilities for TraceGains.
  • Assist with onboarding for new products and product offerings
  • Travel, as needed, to current and prospective suppliers to provide product/process familiarization, resolution of problems, product development assistance and general business updates.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and change management.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Skills and Experiences

  • Bachelor's Degree or 5+ years of relevant experience in supply chain, purchasing or the Alaska seafood industry.
  • Proven track record in procurement.
  • Passionate about sustainable, wild-caught seafood.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite with emphasis on Excel/Google Sheets and WMS systems.
  • Adaptable to new systems and processes (Asana, Looker, etc.).
  • Ability to execute quickly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with distributed remote teams.

Nice to Haves 

  • Masters degree a plus.
  • A background in sustainability.
  • A track record in eCommerce, supply chain operations, financial modeling and/or Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA).
  • Proficiency in languages other than English.

The starting salary range for this position is $60,000 - $90,000, commensurate with skills and experience. Wild Alaskan’s benefits package includes health, vision, and dental insurance, 401k, PTO, safe/sick time, vacation, parental leave and more, as well as a delicious box of free fish every month.
