Company description At Understory Farm we grow 5 acres of specialty cut flowers in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. We produce over 50 different varieties of cut flowers for sale to wholesalers, local florist, grocery stores and our CSA. We believe flowers bring beauty to our community, empower creativity and bring people joy. We grow in greenhouses and the field and we operate 9 months out of the year. We are a small farm with a tight knit crew that values hard work, treating one another with respect, clear communication and constantly working towards improving our systems and ourselves. Job description We are currently seeking one more full time and part time employee to round out our team for the 2024 growing season. The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for flowers, farming, values hard work, is self directed, comfortable working both as a team and independently, and is capable of working in all weather conditions outside. We strive to create a work culture that is respectful and kind, fun and focused and full of clear expectations. 

When: April-November
 

Full time position: 35-40hrs/week

Part time position: 20-25hrs/week

 

Qualifications for this job: Be able to lift 50lbs, experience working on a production farm preferred, self directed, comfortable with direct communication and feedback, reliable and able to show up on time, ready to work, good attention to detail, and committed to working the full season
This job will include task such as: Harvesting, seeding, weeding, bouquet making, transplanting, digging and planting bulbs and tubers, mowing and weed whacking, operating some equipment, making deliveries, contributing to our weekly newsletter and social posts.
Hourly wage starts at $18/hr-$20/hr depending on experience with a pay raise mid season and bonus at the end of the season. Higher compensation is possible for someone with 3+ years flower farming experience, management capabilities and ability to harvest flowers efficiently and perceptively.
On farm housing is an option and available to rent starting in April.
