Job description

 

As a Summer Art and Culinary Educator, you will serve as an engaging teacher and role model, teaching key skills and inspiring kids to explore art, culinary techniques, flavors and cuisines during our summer camps. This is an excellent role for child care professionals, artists, and educators looking to expand into the culinary world. Also for a chef looking to share their knowledge with the next generation and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the restaurant industry. We’re looking for a dependable and organized individual with strong teaching skills and/or industry experience who is ready to join a small (but mighty) team. 

 

This job will be conducted within normal business hours from M-F (8:30am-4pm) with the opportunity to work on weekends and evenings for additional hours.
 

Responsibilities 

This role includes leading daily culinary enrichment and or art & science education programs on site at our studio in Ghirardelli Square SF, or at our East Bay Summer Camps (Albany & Piedmont), up to five days per week. 

 

Summer Camp (beginning in June): 

  • Lead cooking and/or education related programs for our Summer Camps Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM-3:30 PM for kids ages 3-10.
  • You will assist in set-up, prep, clean-up and of guiding campers through the day’s art and cooking activities. 
  • You will be engaging with the campers throughout the day at activity centers and in the kitchen and art studio to ensure a delightful experience for all. 
  • This job is intended for those interested in working with food, health, nutrition, as well as early childhood and elementary educators during the Summer.

 

On-Site Programming:

  • Lead cooking, art, and/or education related programs at our culinary studio in Ghirardelli Square, San Francisco or in the East Bay (Piedmont or Albany). 
  • Option to assist with private events and birthday parties on evenings and weekends throughout the Summer and beyond. 


Skills + Experience Required

  • Professional culinary training or experience working in the food industry is a plus, but not required.  We welcome qualified chefs, instructors and students from culinary schools, personal chefs, home economics teachers, retired food service professionals, and kitchen enthusiasts that are self-taught. We are also interested in hearing from artists and early child educators and teachers. The summer curriculum is a combination of cooking, art, science, and exploration! 
  • Interest, proficiency, and comfort in working with children between the ages of 3-10 years old is a must.
  • Comfortable managing large groups of children with a team (max class size is 26 children) 
  • Comfortable using Google office suite (docs, sheets,  slides, and calendar)
  • Must complete a Live Scan (will be reimbursed). Current First Aid/CPR certificate a plus. Must be vaccinated for COVID-19. These items can be completed upon hire 

 

You…

  • Love the high energy of working with kids, and approach teaching from a mindful, patient and compassionate approach. 
  • Have 1 year or more of experience working with children.
  • Professional, reliable, detail oriented, and good at handling multiple tasks and staying on schedule.
  • Proactive and hard worker, who loves working with a team and willing to take on all tasks.
  • Extremely mature and responsible; excellent decision making in high-intensity situations.
  • Note, we ask that educators commit to full-week camp sessions with a 3 week minimum commitment. 


Time Commitment

  • Daytime availability 
  • Must be available between 8:30am-3:45pm Monday-Friday for a minimum of 6 total weeks, and a max of 13 weeks during the summer.
  • Available for summer camps running between June 1st  and August 31st, 2024
  • Between 35-40 hours / week. More hours available outside of camp if desired on off or part time weeks. 
  • Possibility to shift to part time hours in September if available. 

 

Pay 

Starting at $25-$30 per hour, depending on experience.
