Curio Spice Co. is an independent, woman-owned, certified B Corp™ dedicated to finding unique, organic spices around the world, sourcing them responsibly and bringing them together in artful blends. We operate a brick and mortar store and kitchen in Cambridge, MA where we sell pure spices, spice blends, and spice accessories, as well as teach classes and hold events in our new lab space next door.  We aim to create an intense sensory and educational experience for people who visit our shop and to bring them closer to the communities of farmers around the world who cultivate these flavors.  Our products are sold online, directly to restaurants, and through other retail stores across North America.

Job Description

Purpose:  Join Curio Spice Co. to help change the world one spice at a time. We are seeking passionate individuals to help our customers feel welcome and inspired in our Cambridge, MA storefront as well as a NEW location opening this spring at the Boston Public Market!

Curio Spice Associates are responsible for delivering a uniquely educational and sensory experience to all customers while operating the point of sale and offering exceptional customer service. Ongoing product knowledge and sales technique training will be provided to team members.

This job has 2 locations, so ability to get to both locations is a must.
 

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Assist Retail Customers

  • Greet and create a welcoming environment for all Curio customers upon arrival 
  • Help meet and exceed sales goals
  • Educate and guide Curio’s customers through our spice offerings, house-made blends & tools
    • Participate in staff sensory training exercises and display in-depth knowledge of Curio’s products
  • Answer customers questions, give advice and offer recommendations
  • Share and explain Curio’s mission and values
  • Operate Point of Sale (register system), handle returns, exchanges, and gift wrapping
  • Answer the phone, process and fill phone orders (Cambridge only)
  • Engage customers with upcoming events & programming opportunities in the lab (Cambridge only)
    •  Support event setup & breakdown
  • Assist with weekend sampling program including preparation, service and cleanup while maintaining food safety protocols

Maintain Store Organization & Backstock

  • Restock shelves, rotate product, maintain Curio shelf and display merchandising protocols
  • Assess back stock and communicate with the team to maintain inventory
  • Assist with maintenance duties such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, emptying trash, dusting
  • Organize and assemble gift sets, as needed

  • Ability to take public transit or get to Boston Public Market and Cambridge store (there is little to no parking available)
  • Must be up to date with COVID vaccines and boosters, and willing to comply with mask mandates when required
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend down, and continually able to walk up and down a staircase carrying boxes, products and other necessary items

The Cambridge storefront is located in North Cambridge, a 5 minute walk from the Red Line Davis Square T stop.

The Boston Public Market is located in downtown Boston, directly above the Orange line Haymarket T stop.
