Job description

Bobolink Dairy, a 100% grassfed raw milk dairy near NYC, is seeking a motivated individual to train for the job of herd and pasture manager.  While prior experience with cattle and pasture is desirable, it is not a requirement: we value chracter over skills!

The successful candidate will be trained to assume over time the primary responsibility for our herd of 100+ old-breed cattle and their 185 acres of symbiotic pasture.

The training will include learning holistic herd managment, cow and calf care, rotational grazing, pasture management, the installation and managment of electric fencing, water systems, an innovative milking system, and various other electrical, mechanical and plumbing skills, as well as the safe use of tractor and field equipment.

While this is a job that requires a great deal of reasoning, it also requires a strong back, good knees, and a calm and steady hand.

We are seeking a candidate that is in a position to commit to at minimum one year, preferably two or more years.

We can provide shared housing near the farm, which is in rural/suburban Hunterdon County, NJ, about 70 minutes from Manhattan, 90 minutes from Philadelphia, and about 40 minutes from Princeton.

Job is a full-time, year 'round position, working directly for and with the owner/farmer/cheesemaker. A clean driver's license is required.

Please apply by email, telling us about yourself, where you've been,  where you're headed, and what you've done along the way.  Please provide three references (tel # and email address).
