Executive Chef/Operator will run the vision, strategy and culinary operations for a private school in San Francisco as well as our central commissary. For the client, you'll create a high-quality culinary experience, maintain a unique food culture and manage a team of employees, maintaining and elevating Fare’s strict conservation and sourcing values and high standards for employee performance. This is a dynamic role within a scaling company with opportunity for growth, learning and operational experience.
Responsibilities
Executive Chef/Operator will lead the direction for menu creativity, development, costing and logistics. Working with farmers, vendors, community partners, you’ll build and nurture relationships and source the highest quality products. Alongside our finance team, you will maintain budgets, run financially sound operations and and teach your team about financial decision making. You will help create food and hospitality values and implement them into operational practice. You’ll contribute to the concept, plan, opening and management of multiple facilities. You’ll participate in our inclusive team approach, meaning that each employee - from dishwasher to cashier to manager - is trained in multiple leadership and culinary skills. The goal is to share operational best practices and smart resources with all employees.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 - 10 years of restaurant kitchen management or relevant food experience
- Strong drive to change school food
- High levels of organization, system creation, structure implementation and management
- Experience as a proven leader
- The desire and ability to train others
- Effective and positive leadership skills including the ability to clearly set expectations, train individuals, maintain standards through positive discipline and foster teamwork
- Ability to be self-sufficient and make sound decisions on-the-fly
- Ability to think through the life cycle of food to develop innovative waste and environmental impact ideas
- Extensive culinary skills (knife, prep, culinary, preservation, etc)
- Honest, clear and strong oral and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills (docs, spreadsheets, googledocs, etc.)
