The Museum of Food and Drink has launched New York City’s first food museum with exhibits you can eat. Our mission is to change how people think about food and inspire day-to-day curiosity about what we eat and why. MOFAD Lab is our first brick-and-mortar home. It is a 5,000 square foot space located on McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. MOFAD uses this space to design, build, and showcase its exhibit concepts to the public as our team works toward opening the full museum. MOFAD Lab's first full-scale exhibition, Flavor: Making It and Faking It, opened to the public on October 28, and examines the science and history of the flavor industry. WHO YOU ARE
MOFAD is seeking an individual to run operations at our exhibit design studio MOFAD Lab as we transition from our current exhibition “Flavor: Making it and Faking It” into our fall exhibition. You’ll be in charge of ensuring our space is active, safe, and engaging for all guests. You will oversee the visitor experience and improve workflows to ensure day-to-day operations function properly. As one of five full-time staff members, you'll be part of the founding of New York City's next great cultural institution.
The salary for this position is $30,000.
You:
- Have 2+ years of management experience, preferably in the arts, hospitality, or a similar client-facing industry
- Are an excellent project manager who can prioritize and manage time effectively while simultaneously handling multiple tasks
- Have an entrepreneurial spirit and strong problem-solving skills
- Have strong interpersonal, collaborative, written communication, and customer service skills
- Are familiar with Salesforce, or are excited to learn to how to use it
- Are able to quickly switch gears and demonstrate your Swiss Army Knife arsenal of skills as circumstances and priorities shift
- Knowledge of museum visitor services and New York City cultural institutions
- Aptitude for conflict resolution, negotiation, and creating positive outcomes
- Fluency in food culture, history, science, production, commerce, and/or policy
- Available to work on days when MOFAD is open to the public, from Wednesday to Sunday
- Basic handyman/woman skills
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteer docents
- Manage MOFAD’s facilities, including maintaining cleanliness and organization, and coordinating services with cleaners, laundry, waste disposal, pest control, and security
- Manage daily exhibition floor preparation and upkeep
- Manage and maintain relationships with various vendors and accounts that relate to operations and earned revenue
- Master our point of sale system and train staff
- Manage ticketing, as well as membership recruitment, outreach, and fulfillment
- Create weekly and monthly earned revenue and attendance reports
- Assist in marketing strategies and projects as they arise
- Operate and promote venue rental opportunities
- Assist executive director on an ad hoc basis
- Do whatever it takes! Be willing to get your hands dirty and assist with all manner of tasks
