Job description

CAREERS THROUGH CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM (C-CAP), a not-for-profit providing career and educational opportunities to underserved youth in the culinary arts seeks a National College Scholarship Manager/Admissions Counselor to provide college readiness and guidance to C-CAP program participants to increase their access, enrollment, retention and graduation from post-secondary education. This position will manage the scholarship program that C-CAP has throughout its seven locations and will initiate and maintain relationships with high school teachers, guidance counselors, college access programs, post secondary administrators, C-CAP students and alumni; conduct college readiness workshops; provide post-secondary guidance; solicit new scholarships; maintain and update appropriate scholarship and award documentation; monitor, track and report the progress of scholarship winners; and coordinate C-CAP’s alumni activities and networks. He or she will work together with other staff members to accomplish C-CAP’s goals. The job requires strong communication skills, initiative and follow-through. This position reports to C-CAP’s President.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The National College Scholarship Manager/Admissions Counselor’s functions include, but may not be limited to, duties such as the following:

• Execute and create college readiness, college transition, and financial aid workshops/programs for students, parents, and teachers.
• Counsel high school students about post-secondary options in group and one-on-one sessions both locally and nationwide.
• Provide financial aid counseling to high school students and college students.
• Coach college students throughout the country on how to navigate academic, financial, and personal challenges throughout their college enrollment.
• Solicit and manage over $3 million in scholarships annually; oversee distribution of all scholarships nationwide with intent to spread resources equally across all C-CAP locations to support the best interest of the students.
• Assist in the execution of national C-CAP Cooking Competition for Scholarships; interview students and alumni for scholarship opportunities
• Develop college resources and materials for high school guidance counselors, teachers and satellite programs.

• Establish and maintain relationships with current program participants and alumni.

• Develop and nurture ongoing relationships with post-secondary schools and contacts.
• Travel as needed to support program implementation in satellite locations.
• Arrange and execute national alumni events.

• Maintain statistics and records on all college-related activities and prepare reports for internal and external use.

• Stay abreast of college access issues and knowledgeable about culinary institutions.
• Share best practices and assist local program staff in their efforts to provide post-secondary school counseling for their alumni and current program participants.
• Develop relationships with other social service and college access programs in order to make appropriate referrals for students who need services beyond C-CAP’s areas of expertise.
• Collaborate with other program staff and non-profits on special projects.
• Work with staff on a variety of projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree
• College advising certification preferred (i.e. Options Institute College Counseling Certificate)
• At least three to five years work experience in college advising
• Teaching experience preferred
• Experience designing and/or executing college readiness programs
• Experience in youth development, counseling and advisement
• In-depth knowledge of federal and NY state financial aid processes, including FAFSA and TAP applications; familiarity with in-state aid processes in AZ, CA, IL, MD, PA, and VA a plus
• Superior computer application skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with Macintosh computers preferred. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge a plus.
• Familiarity with NYC DOE high school graduation requirements
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
• Initiative in developing new relationships and programs
• Ability to manage multiple relationships and tasks
• Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
• Interest and/or experience in culinary arts, hospitality, or related field a plus

Compensation

this position is: salaried, 50k to 100k
