Uplands Cheese is a family-owned and operated dairy farm and cheese company in rural, southwestern Wisconsin.  Our team of approximately ten full and part-time employees produces two cheeses: Pleasant Ridge Reserve and Rush Creek Reserve.  Learn more about our farm on our website or by calling us.

We are now hiring a Shipping and Office Manager. The Shipping and Office Manager processes all cheese shipments, maintains customer communications and fulfills basic bookkeeping duties.  This is a full-time, year-round job that requires excellent organization and communication skills, familiarity with basic computer programs (Excel, Word, Gmail, Quickbooks, etc.), and the ability to do light physical work. After an initial trial period with an hourly wage, a salary, benefit and bonus package will be put into place.

Below is an outline of the Manager’s three primary responsibilities. Typically, each week requires an equal amount of time on each task.  The early part of the week is usually dedicated to shipping cheese, while the latter half of the week is spent on bookkeeping and preparing for the next week’s shipments.  An hour or two of each day is typically spent with customer emails and phone calls. 

1) Shipping cheese

• Work with other employees to wrap and prepare cheese for shipping
• Package final shipments (requires lifting several dozen 30-lb packages each week)
• Track cheese inventory with Excel spreadsheets
• Monitor and re-stock shipping and office supplies (boxes, tape, labels, etc.)

2) Customer Communication

• Be a clear and friendly link to approximately 100 different customers by answering emails, phone calls and voicemails, and by creating basic marketing materials (fliers, emails, etc.)

3) Bookkeeping (QuickBooks)

• Manage receivables

             a) Create and send customer invoices
             b) Track and collect invoices
             c) Receive checks and make deposits

• Manage payables

             a) Write and send 10 -20 checks per week
