Job description

The FARM Institute is an educational non-profit working farm committed to connecting people of all ages and all circumstances to agriculture. We are located on the island of Martha's Vineyard and operate on a 162 acre historic farm.

Reports to: Education Director, Executive Director

Works with: Education Director, TFI Office Staff, Farm Based Educators, Livestock Managers, community members, leaders of other organizations, campers, students, and parents.

Job Summary: Assists with the management of all aspects of educational programming including summer camp, school field trips, residential programs, workshops, and visiting groups. Includes a specific emphasis on curriculum planning and implementing.

Hours: Full Time, exempt position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (others may be assigned):
  • Develop effective place-based curriculum for all ages and a variety of topics
  • Assist Education Director with essential duties and responsibilities
  • Ensure that Farm Based Educators are using planned lessons effectively
  • Assist in coordinating summer camp, the Farm Based Educator in Training program, residential programs, group visits, and other programming.
  • Schedule, plan, and lead field trips with island schools and groups.
  • Oversee special projects as appointed by the Executive Director
  • Manage summer staff as part of TFI’s year round Administrative Staff
  • Collaborate with other organizations and schools
  • Outreach to increase TFI’s clientele
  • Develop new avenues to fulfill TFI’s mission
Qualifications and Work Experience:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2-3 years education experience 
  • Administrative Experience (database management, record keeping, etc.)
  • Ability to work with the public and represent TFI in a positive, professional manner
  • Ability to work as part of an administrative team in an organized way
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Considerable exposure to agriculture
  • Staff management experience preferred
