Westwind Orchard is seeking a seasonal, full-time farm supervisor for 2016. Westwind Orchard is one of the region’s only certified organic orchards with a strong focus on holistic farming practices. We grow apples, pears, tomatoes, squash, raspberries, as well as produce our own honey, maple syrup, eggs, pizza, and hard cider. The successful applicant should have organic farming or orcharding experience, as well as a passion for local, organic agriculture, mechanical and equipment skills, business management and computer skills, and a valid NYS driver license.

The nature of farming is seasonal and so the duties and responsibilities will ebb and flow through the year. Earlier in the year, duties will focus on actual farming activities, while later in the season the focus will shift to managing the business, though there will be plenty of overlap. Overall, duties and responsibilities include diverse orchard and farm work, such as pruning, planting, weeding, spraying, irrigating, and harvest; value-added products processing and management; sales and marketing; wholesale, farm stand, and pick-your-own business management; and seasonal deliveries to NYC. Wages and benefits are commensurate with experience.
