Job description

This past September Good Food Jobs and Eco Practicum teamed up to run an epic gathering of good food enthusiasts. The 4-day weekend spawned many ideas about how to actively engage in the good food movement. This is the start of one of them.

About Good Food Jobs
Yes, we're a job search engine. But we believe that the value in our community, made up of more than 60,000 passionate people like yourself, is so much more than that. While we love the connections that we’ve made online through this site, we have a strong desire to get Good Food Jobs users (affectionately called 'gastrognomes') together in person. We need your help to explore an exciting new idea for putting you face-to-face with your cohorts.

About Eco Practicum
We are a school for ecological justice, bridging the gap between learning and doing, and cultivating a generation of leaders realizing visionary solutions. We offer a range of programs - from one-day workshops to month-long immersions - that connect you to the most innovative projects and effective experts working in the fields of environmental, social, and economic justice. Our goal is to go beneath surface meanings and dominant myths to expose the root causes and ideologies underlying our systems. Our programs leave you passionate, inspired, and transformed - with a new community of peers who care just as much as you do.

About the Opportunity
In our experience, there is no shortage of work to be done. Very often, job seekers on our site (and other members of our community) are eager to do two things:
1) Have meaningful experiences where they feel like they are contributing, and
2) meet 'their people' and make friends in the good food community.

Good Food Jobs and Eco Practicum have teamed up to test out a plan that brings people together around acts of public service. Eco Practicum offers a model for social impact that combines learning and doing, giving and receiving, generosity and gratitude. Good Food Jobs brings together a community of caring individuals that are committed to furthering our collective food culture. This new project, Good Food Works, will combine a 'community meeting', hosted by a local organization or expert, with an active one-day project to benefit individuals and/or communities. Here’s where you come in.

We’re asking you for Public Service Project proposals in your community. Do you run, work with, or frequent an organization or business that needs help to complete a project? Do you have a public service idea that you want to test out? Are you aware of members in your community that could use the help of some able-bodied food enthusiasts? The sky is the limit, and we want to hear from you.

Rules of the Game
We'll be selecting a pilot proposal, and helping you to bring the proposal to fruition. We're evaluating your proposals on a few different levels:
    • Impact. The public service project would ideally be able to be completed within one day, within 4 - 6 hours.
    • Community building. The project will ideally make use of no fewer than 5 and not many more than 15 people.
    • Leadership. There must be an independent, on-site project manager (this could be you or someone you nominate).that would be you!)
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. We look forward to hearing from you - and hope to help make your project a reality.
