Active Citizen Project (ACP) is seeking full and part-time
SEASONAL FARMERS for Project EATS (PE) in New York City. This is a unique opportunity for experienced agricultural farmers who have a passion for growing food sustainably and making health and well-being available to people, no matter their income or where they live. Strong candidates will have 2 or more years of experience in intensive, organic farming which includes integrated pest and disease management, diversified crop plans, composting, and farm stand operations and sales. You will work with other ACP farmers, educators, and community program staff in a collaborative, innovative environment. Valid Driver’s License is a must.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Seasonal Farmers provide expertise and support to PE farm and market operations. They assist with training programs throughout the season, as needed, and report to a Regional Farm Manager.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
- Maintain and produce high yields of quality crops for neighborhood markets and commercial sales
- Observe and maintain Project EATS farm and work standards
- Complete work on time and efficiently
- Provide good, quality service to PE customers, community members, and partners
- Work effectively with diverse groups of youth and adults
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Effectively execute farm responsibilities and assist in overseeing farm operations
- Supervise staff, trainees, and volunteers
- Support all aspects of farm stand operations, outreach and commercial sales to achieve targets
- Assist or manage market operations, harvest days, and produce deliveries to commercial clients, as needed
- Maintain harvest standards for quality presentation, washing, packaging and storage
- Attend farm and staff meetings as required

Project EATS is hiring seasonal farmers for the following regions:
- Manhattan and the Bronx
- Brooklyn
- Staten Island

Active Citizen Project has built and operated 14 farms in 9 communities in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx since 2009. Currently, Project EATS manages 7 farms in Brooklyn and Manhattan on a total of 4 acres with opportunities to develop new sites on 1 additional acre in 2016. With its farms, Project EATS provides school-based and community agricultural education and farmer training programs, and employment for community residents. In 2016, farm products will be used to provide training in artisanal, small-scale, product manufacturing.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
