The Essex Street Market Vendor Association (ESMVA) is seeking a Vendor Services Coordinator. Our ideal candidate is passionate about supporting a unique and diverse community of small food vendors who call the Essex Street Market home. The Vendor Services Coordinator will report to the Chair of ESMVA’s Board of Directors. This part-time position generally requires a 28-hour work week at an hourly rate of $15-$16 dependent upon qualifications and experience. Schedules are flexible and dependent upon assigned projects and priorities. Weekend and evening hours may be required on occasion. Additional hours may be necessary when authorized and are dependent upon specific organizational needs. This is a grant-funded position available through June 30, 2016 with the potential for extension based on available funding.ABOUT THE MARKET & ESMVA
The Essex Street Market is one of four LaGuardia era public food markets operating throughout the five boroughs. It’s current facility has been operable since 1940. In 2018 the Market will move to an expanded facility that is being redeveloped as part of Essex Crossing, a nine site mixed-use project. The Market is home to more than 20 small vendors that both serve and reflect the diverse community in which it operates. ESMVA represents the interests of all vendors playing a key role in advocating for vendor needs and coordinating support services, programming and marketing initiatives. ESMVA is central point of contact between market management, partner organizations as well as, other community and governmental stakeholders.
ABOUT THE JOB
This is a great opportunity for an aspiring individual to be on the forefront of small food culture in New York City supporting a diverse group of small vendors. Responsibilities include:
• Schedule, publicize, organize and attend meetings, including preparation and distribution of agendas and relevant materials.
• Coordinate vendor participation in programming and marketing initiatives seeking maximum participation and impact for both individual vendors and the collective vendor community.
• Coordinate internal communications among vendors, including communicating both in writing and in person, ensuring they are informed about the association and activities in the Market, encouraging participation in meetings and activities, and soliciting feedback or input, when necessary.
• Identify and implement programs and benefits ESMVA can provide for vendors; seek ways to provide additional support and services leveraging outside resources and partnerships.
• Serve as the point of contact with external stakeholders such as city agencies, elected officials and partnering or neighborhood organizations, staying informed about issues that affect the vendors.
• Assist in the preparation of the ESMVA’s annual plan, helping to identify important areas of engagement, organizational improvements and activities.
• Maintain all official records, minutes and documents for the organization, as well as all official correspondence, notices, mailings and distribution records for these materials.
• Coordinate financial management activities, including accounting of association funds and legal filing requirements.
• Perform administrative duties, as needed, to support the association’s Board of Directors.
ABOUT YOU
Ideal candidates will have a desire to support a diverse group of small vendors and be comfortable developing creative ways to improve business conditions and attract new customers. Preferred qualifications include: • Have obtained or are seeking a degree in economic or community development, marketing, retail management or other related field.
• Enjoy food and working to ensure access to quality fresh produce and other goods at a variety of price points for a diverse customer population.
• Enjoy collaborating with a distinctive and energetic group of people working to enhance growth and success of a vendor community and tightly knit local economy. • Thrive in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment that demands a proactive work ethic and possess the ability to foster strong interpersonal relationships.
• Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Apps and other technology and social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; additional skills in WordPress and Quickbooks are a plus.
• Have leadership, organization and time management skills, as well as a keen attention to detail.
•Be comfortable working both in an office environment and in the field.
• Be bi-lingual with fluency in Spanish and/or Korean is a plus.
