Job Description The Brooklyn Kitchen is a cooking store that offers equipment, education, and ingredients. We help people find the skills, tools, and food to nourish themselves, their families, and their friends. Our vision is to connect people with food and fun.

We are currently looking for a Grocery Specialist to join the team. The primary role of the GS will be to oversee all incoming grocery items at the Brooklyn Kitchen. The person is accountable for all food products arriving, on display, and in back stock at The Brooklyn Kitchen.

We expect the Grocery Specialist to accomplish this by:

• Physically processing, stocking, and backstocking all grocery and produce items that arrive each day
• Confirming quality and quantities of incoming orders; ensuring proper labeling and rotation
• Greeting all customers with a friendly smile; providing excellent customer service; educating customers on products
• Creating and maintaining full, fresh, and attractive food displays
• Maintaining cleanliness and organization of all grocery storage spaces including walk-in refrigerator, store rooms, and additional produce back stock.
• Using sales software to check prices, adjust inventories, and print labels
• Communicating with team members and management to solve problems and improve displays and systems
• Supporting a positive work environment
• Participating in Staff Training to continually develop product knowledge

What we’re looking for:

• 0-2 years of grocery processing and sales experience preferred
• Knowledge in and enthusiasm for the food and housewares industry. Understanding of specialty grocery channel is preferred
• Exceptionally high standards for tidiness and cleanliness
• New York City Department of Health's Food Protection Certificate (or willingness to obtain promptly)
• Empathetic, diligent, can-do attitude; someone willing to learn and grow
• Familiarity with Point of Sale systems and label makers and barcode printer
