For many months, we here at GFJ HQ have been seeking ways to connect this beautiful community of kindred spirits we call Good Food Jobs. We dreamed. We schemed. We came up with big, hairy, audacious projects.

When we became overwhelmed by the big-ness of creating something from thin air, we looked back on our our newsletters for words of advice: ”done is better than perfect,” “shut up and try”... Okay, we got the hint. And we decided to turn the challenge of creating real-world connection into a challenge for individuals to build community, one participant at a time.

We’re unveiling the first ever GFJ Challenge to bring people together using the power of shared commitment and personal growth.

The mission of the GFJ Challenge is to offer guided and community-supported social, emotional, and physical challenges to individual users. Participating in a challenge will provide access to group resources, unlocking personal potential and strengthening commitment and involvement in the GFJ community.

Each season, we’ll roll out a new challenge related to many of the themes you’ve heard us talk about over the years: scratch-cooking, engagement with the natural world, hand-written communication, living the life you want to live.

We’ll invite people to commit to each Challenge for 30 days and share tips, photos, recipes, stories, resources, and struggles within a discussion group.

This month, we’re doing a test run, and we’re seeking 6 people to help us. The challenge is called the Home Cooking Cleanse, and will run from August 28 - September 26. Responsibilities & Requirements

• Wholeheartedly take on the 30-day challenge: the Home Cooking Cleanse. This means that you will not purchase any food or beverage from restaurants, or share in a restaurant meal or beverage purchased by others, for the full 30 days.
• Participate in the discussion group (requires creating an account with our third party organizer, Slack.com – don’t worry, it’s pretty simple and we’ll be doing it together!)
• Be willing and available to answer questions and provide feedback during and after the challenge
• Availability during the challenge timeline of August 28 – September 26
• Patience and understanding: this is a test run, so we’ll be ironing out the wrinkles as we go
• Regular access to internet, email and/or App-friendly mobile phone
