Greenmarket Organization Information:Greenmarket is a program of GrowNYC, formerly Council on the Environment of NYC (http://www.grownyc.org). Greenmarket's mission is to promote regional agriculture and ensure a continuing supply of fresh local produce for New Yorkers. Greenmarket supports farmers and preserves farmland for the future by providing regional, small family farmers with opportunities to sell their fruits, vegetables and other farm products to New Yorkers.
Youth Education Coordinator Position Summary:
Reporting to the Greenmarket Assistant Director, this full-time position requires experience in nutrition education, food studies, or a related field. This person will be responsible for coordinating Greenmarket’s education and school-based programs at 53 markets across the City, with a focus on our flagship market at Union Square. The Youth Education Coordinator will liaise with schools, nonprofit partners, farmers and others to ensure that the major components of the program are executed effectively: School Tours at Market, Meet Your Farmer, On the Farm field trips, and the Seed to Plate Curriculum. This position will be responsible for all education materials and handouts distributed to students. The Youth Education Coordinator will work with the GrowNYC Youth Education Manager to implement Seed to Plate. This position requires excellent communications skills and knowledge of the New York City school system.
Responsibilities:
Below is a list of some, but not all, of the Youth Education Coordinator’s duties:
· Fosters partnerships with school leadership, education-based nonprofits, and other networks throughout the five boroughs
· Coordinates school tours, ensuring that age-appropriate materials are available, communicating with farmers that participate, overseeing cooking demos, and liaising with teachers before and after
· Oversees the Meet Your Farmer program, scheduling and communicating with farmers and teachers to ensure a positive experience
· Implements the Seed to Plate curriculum in schools across the five boroughs, including supervising and training staff and liaising with teachers
· Develops and implements systems for program evaluation
· Tracks distribution of coupons and collection of fees from school tours, Meet Your Farmer and other programs
· Assists with coordination of school visits to the Randall’s Island Learning Garden and Greenmarket farms
· Recruits and supervises youth education interns and volunteers
Ideal Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree at minimum
* Knowledge of sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and environmental issuesExperience teaching children
* Resourceful, creative, energetic and flexible to respond to diverse, strong personalities and daily questions that accompany operating open-air events in New York
* CityCustomer service and marketing skills
* Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once without missing deadlines
* Able to provide accurate details about daily operations as well as big-picture explanations of program mission
* Experience working with diverse constituencies
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
* Proficient in Microsoft Office
