Job Description We are looking for a produce distrubution assistant, who will work with a partner to complete our regular twice weekly route within NYC.  You will work Monday and Thursday mornings, and will either drive the route throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, or ride shotgun and be the primary person to unload and double-check orders at each stop.

About Myers Produce:
Myers Produce is a one-year-old regional produce distributor based in Hardwick, Vermont.  We purchase fresh produce directly from farmers throughout Vermont and Western Mass, and distribute this produce within New York City.  We take orders from our customers by phone or email, and deliver to these customers twice a week within the city.  As a new, independent, for-profit company, we are focused on supporting the agricultural communities of the Northeast by increasing farmers’ access to the population of New York City.

The ideal candidate for this position:

• Is a true morning person, reliably able to wake up before dawn.
• Is observant, has excellent attention to detail
• Understands how critical their role is to Myers Produce
• Adapts well to the changes and surprises that are inevitable in our line of work
• Keeps their cool: patient in traffic, safe driver
• Likes physical work, is able to lift 40-50 lb boxes 
• Is interested in our mission
• Thinks creatively
• Has a smart phone (not required, but it's helpful).
• Is interested and excited to put in a few extra hours when there is extra work to be done
• Is capable of driving our 14-ft international 4300 box truck (not required).

Requirements:

• Clean driving record
• Experience driving (a vehicle of any kind) in NYC or comparable urban environment
• Food handling experience
• Patience with an evolving business that is constantly developing.  Our system changes often, as our business grows, and we'll need you to be excited by these developments, not impatient with them.

Perks:
It is important to us that every member of our team be familiar with the farmers we work with, and the food we are selling.  When you start your time with us, we'd like to take you up to Vermont & Western Mass for a day or two, and introduce you to our farmers and the community where most of our produce comes from.  The farmers in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont are at the heart of our operation, and the Pioneer Valley is a goldmine of good farmland and ambitious young vegetable growers.  We want to make sure you know the people in these places who have encouraged us to do what we do!

Future:
There is a distinct possibility that this position could turn into a more full-time job over the course of the year, as we explore more markets, expand our list of suppliers, and as the availability of produce explodes with the season.  We are not making any promises, but if you would be interested in ultimately working with us full-time, please mention that in your application.  You will still be fully considered even if you would not be interested/able to work with us more than two days a week.
