Job Description Blue Bottle Coffee is a network of cafes, wholesale partners, and online experiences united by the simple purpose of getting great coffee to everyone who asks for it. We roast coffee on vintage gear, put it in compostable bags, and still get it to our customers within 48 hours. Improbably and delightfully, there are hundreds of us now. We roast on two coasts, make great drinks, clean up after ourselves, bake cookies, type up invoices, get change at the bank, and say please and thank you. About The Job

We are looking for someone to join our talented team of Roasters at our Oakland production facility. The right individual is open to learning the craft of roasting coffee and has a dedication to maintain Blue Bottle’s quality standards.  As an apprentice, you will learn to operate the roasting equipment as well as cup coffee for quality assurance every day.  Experience with a commercial roaster is a plus, but not essential. 

Responsibilities

• Have a passion and willingness to learn the craft of coffee roasting through instruction, observation and learned application for the company’s needs.
• Track all roasted batches using Colortrak and Cropster.
• Respond to emails and communicate in a timely manner.
• Assist production roasters in all duties (weighing out green coffee batches, setting up cuppings, blending roasted batches, pulling roasted samples).
• Takes initiative with maintenance duties on roasting equipment.
• Participate regularly in cuppings to develop and strengthen palate.
• Remain open and welcoming of questions about roasting from BBC staff.
• Act as a representative of Blue Bottle at all times.
• Keep all work areas clean and tidy.
• Can operate a forklift (recommended).

• You have basic computer skills, math skills, and web based apps.
• You are extremely punctual.
• You are a team player; flexible to daily changes as production demands.
• You are reliable, honest, and care about your work.
