Catering Chef/Cook Edible History

About Us:
Edible History is a historical catering company: we recreate meals from the past and use food as a sensory medium to bring history to life. Some current menus we offer include, a 15th Century Italian Feast, a History of American BBQ, a Jewish Diaspora Dinner etc. All the food is presented as our resident historian and host walks diners through the history of the period, using each dish as a window into a wider theme of culture.
As a small company, we mainly host supper clubs and dinner parties, though we have catered dinners for as many as 200 + people. We’re looking to bring on another part-time chef and/or cook to add to our small team. Though experience as an executive chef is not necessary, the individual should feel comfortable leading the kitchen on his or her own.
We’re looking for an individual who is up for a challenge, interested in experimenting with some very old recipes, and joining a non-traditional catering/supper club company.
Preferred Background:
- Preferred experience as a catering chef, or catering cooking; though restaurant experience is also great.
- Ability to work in pop-up kitchens, new and often unfamiliar spaces, with a willingness to quickly adapt and take on challenges as they come.
- Willingness to use some of your own cooking materials and utensils.
- Command of ordering and inventory procedures.
- Technically skilled in the kitchen and mastery of a variety of cooking techniques.
- Strong communication skills.
