Job description

Outstanding in the Field is a roving culinary adventure – literally a restaurant without walls. Our mission is to re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it. We are 1/3 of the way through our “50 States” tour and a position has become available for a Tour Crew Member/Driver. Position starts ASAP.

Job Title: Tour Crew Member/Driver

Purpose: To be part of the Outstanding in the Field tour crew to execute events from start to finish, while providing tour and service/event support. To be a primary driver for one of the two Outstanding in the Field trucks and trailers for the duration of the tour.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Tour Support

Provide tour support by way of driving a truck & trailer, purchasing supplies & running necessary errands.

Service/Event Support
Work at the Outstanding in the Field events in the capacity that is needed, including but not limited to:
  • Set-up & breakdown of the table, service station, outdoor kitchen & reception; unpacking & packing supplies & equipment
  • Parking cars & greeting guests
  • Serving – providing excellent customer service; accurately and enthusiastically explaining the wine and food to the guests, with emphasis on the origin of ingredients and the story behind each dish
  • Work under the direction of the FOH manager at events

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive driving experience with trucks & trailers 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, potentially high-stress environment
  • Restaurant experience and knowledge of BOH/FOH
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexibility, understanding and tolerance to work, live and travel with the OITF Tour Crew

Work Environment:
  • Full-time, seasonal work
  • Traveling, on the road from now until October 31; living accommodations and food/travel food stipend is provided. Travel schedule is rigorous.
  • Events are outdoors, on farms, and staff are routinely exposed to “the elements” including sun, heat, wind, rain and insects
  • Day-of-event work hours can extend beyond 10 hours
  • Staff are expected to be strong, physically fit and able to lift, carry, set up equipment and supplies for each event
  • Must have valid driver’s license
