Job description
La Cocina (“The Kitchen”) is a nonprofit full-service, shared use commercial kitchen (2200 Sq. feet) and business incubator. The goal of La Cocina is to assist low-income, primarily women, entrepreneurs in becoming economically self-sufficient by providing: (1) a fully approved and equipped commercial kitchen they can use for the development and ongoing preparation of their business; (2) professional food industry technical assistance designed to improve their business operations, market penetration, profit, economic scale and sustainability; and (3) access to new markets.ABOUT THE POSITION
The development & events officer is responsible for researching, identifying and submitting proposals and reports to potential funders for La Cocina as well as manage logistics and fundraising. These funders may include, but are not limited to, public-sector, private and individual donors. Major events include, but are not limited to, the San Francisco Street Food Festival, La Cocina Gift Fair and one annual Mother’s Day events as well as all cooking classes. The officer maintains records, submits all necessary documentation and reports to La Cocina staff and Executive Director in an accurate and timely fashion about pending, incoming and existing agreements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Grants (Government, Foundations and Corporations):
- Research and identify potential and future donors for all La Cocina programs
- Create initial contact with potential and future donors when appropriate
- Attend all funder meetings and brief program staff before meetings when necessary
- Write all letters of intent (LOIs) and proposals for identified potential, current and future funders
- Submit proposals and reports accurately and on time
- Maintain and update funding calendar, ticklers and other information as related to grant activity consistently
- Maintain and organize all hard copies and digital copies of historical funds development work
- Communicate with staff regularly on proposed grant objectives and project guidelines
- Manage development aspects of Salesforce and prepare monthly reports for board
- Manage the individual donor database
- Write all thank you letters and manage individual donor follow-up
- Update and maintain individual donor online presence
- Plan and assist in execution of annual end-of-year donor campaign
- Provide logistical and event planning support to program staff for all events
- Manage all sponsor relationships for large events
- Plan, schedule and work with staff to promote all smaller events
- Budget and report on success/failure of all events
- Set goals and income expectations annually
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
The ideal candidate needs to meet the following requirements:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- An ability to communicate personally and intimately with our program participants as well as an innate understanding or willingness to learn the San Francisco food scene.
- At least 3 years of experience in retail food sales or relevant sales and/or marketing experience.
- Ability to communicate eloquently both orally and in writing (Spanish writing as well).
- Highly organized with excellent time and space management skills.
- Knowledgeable in MS Excel and Word
- Food industry knowledge
- Good people and conflict resolution skills.
- Job requires constant interaction with program participants.
- Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor
- Culturally competent
- A passion for great food and a willingness to taste anything
- Ability to speak passionately and articulately about our mission
Salary: $35--$42,000 DOE, with excellent benefit package, including health and dental.
Hours: full-time Monday through Friday, 2 days a week from home
