Greenmarket, a program of
GrowNYC, supports farmers and preserves farmland for the future by providing regional, small family farmers with opportunities to sell their fruits, vegetables and other farm products to New Yorkers.
Greenmarket’s mission is to promote regional agriculture and ensure a continuing supply of fresh local produce for New Yorkers.
Youth Education Coordinator Position Summary
Reporting to the
Greenmarket Assistant Director, this full-time position requires experience in nutrition education, food studies, or a related field. This person will be responsible for coordinating School Tours at market and the Seed to Plate Curriculum, as well as developing new programs and partnerships. The Youth Education Coordinator will liaise with schools, nonprofit partners, farmers and others to ensure that the major components of the program are executed effectively. This position will be responsible for all education materials and handouts distributed to students. School Tours teach children in grades K-12 about sustainable agriculture, nutrition, cooking, and farmers markets. Tours take place at weekday
Greenmarkets, with a focus on our flagship market at Union Square. Seed to Plate is a 10-lesson in-school curriculum for
5th and
6th graders that combines field trips and guest visits with cooking, videos and group work to teach children about local food and healthy eating.
Responsibilities
Below is a list of some, but not all, of the Youth Education Coordinator’s duties:

Fosters partnerships with school leadership, education-based nonprofits, and other networks throughout the five boroughs

Coordinates school tours, ensuring that age-appropriate materials are available, communicating with farmers that participate, overseeing cooking demos, and liaising with teachers before and after

Implements the Seed to Plate curriculum in schools across the five boroughs, including supervising and training staff and liaising with teachers

Develops and implements systems for program evaluation

Manages the project budget

Tracks distribution of coupons and collection of fees from school tours and other programs

Recruits and supervises youth education interns and volunteers

Partners with other GrowNYC Educational Initiatives on programming and outreach
Ideal Qualifications
-
Bachelors Degree at minimum
-
Knowledge of sustainable agriculture and nutrition
-
Experience teaching children and knowledge of the NYC school system
-
Resourceful, creative, energetic and flexible to respond to diverse, strong personalities and daily questions that accompany operating open-air events in New York City
-
Excellent communication, customer service and marketing skills
-
Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Able to provide accurate details about daily operations as well as big-picture explanations of program mission

Experience working with diverse constituencies

Proficient in Microsoft Office
Salary Range
$40,000-45,000 plus benefits, commensurate with experience.
