The Bakery Class Instructor & Coordinator will be responsible for leading hands-on bakery classes at Le Pain Quotidien’s new West Loop Bakery in compliance with proprietary standards and coordinating class scheduling, enrollment, revenue tracking and ordering.  The desired candidate will create a convivial and educational environment within the bakery to inspire students in the art of artisan baking.  

The Bakery Class Instructor & Coordinator will report to the Bread Education Manager who is located in New York City.  The right candidate will be self-motivated, driven and a knowledgeable baker in areas such as bread and pastry production.  We are looking to make Chicago home and grow this program so for the right motivated candidate, this position has the potential to become full time.  

Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
  • Manage the bakery class schedule, coordinating with the head of production for available days, times and resources.
  • Use internal booking system to manage class enrollment, cancelations and refunds.
  • Track bakery class revenue and report regularly to Bread Education Manager.
  • Ensure all orders for ingredients and equipment are completed in a timely manner so classes are fully prepped.
  • Prepare for classes by advanced mixing of doughs, mise en place ingredients, cleaning of the bakery and material printing.
  • Work with new recipes and existing class outlines given by Bread Education Manager to adapt them to best suit the bakery and students.
  • Lead hands-on bakery classes in a timely and organized fashion in compliance with LPQ standards and curriculum while demonstrating key concepts and techniques.
  • Assist with prep and execution of large-scale bakery/catering events.
  • Conduct classes in a safe and healthy environment to ensure the safety of all students.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service when interacting with students both via correspondence and in the bakery.
  • Maintain a professional and convivial attitude while completing all assigned tasks.
  • Ensure a positive work environment and successful execution of the bakery classes while working with multiple departments both on-site and remotely.
  • Help to grow and expand bakery class program while maintaining authentic, educational experience for students.  

Experience & Educational Requirements:
  • A culinary degree or a minimum of 2 years professional experience in the culinary field.
  • Bread/Pastry background preferred and familiarity with bakery production and ingredients a plus.
  • Previous teaching/training experience preferred.
  • Previous event management and execution experience a plus.
  • Flexible schedule as most classes will be conducted in the evenings or weekends.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite programs and other basic operating programs.
  • Familiarity with inventory & ordering systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret baking formulas.
