About Hot Bread Kitchen & HBK Incubates:
Hot Bread Kitchen (HBK) is a not-for-profit social enterprise based in NYC that promotes economic independence for foreign-born and low-income women through professional bakery training programs and start-up business incubation programs. Project Launch, our on-the-job paid bakery program, also includes English classes and places graduate bakers in commercial bakeries. HBK Incubates, our culinary incubator and business development program, provides comprehensive food business support to male and female entrepreneurs of all backgrounds by offering commercial kitchen rental, financial advising, and workshops.
Job Description:
We are looking for a dynamic individual with business and finance experience to help food entrepreneurs grow and develop in our shared commercial kitchen facility. This is a part-time position at 20 hours/week with daytime and possible evening hours.
The Finance Advisor will oversee and track the progress of program participants. A large component of the Finance Advisor’s work will be providing technical assistance to entrepreneurs, including finance, accounting, marketing and operations support. The Finance Advisor will also contribute to the program’s curriculum by delivering training and workshops on accounting and finance topics. The Finance Advisor will work under the direction of the Senior Program Director. Applicants with culinary experience and that are fluent in Spanish a plus.
Specific Duties:

Meets with and counsels entrepreneurs weekly for business and finance strategy, and ensures members keep accurate accounts and projections.

Engages business in actionable items targeted at effective financial management, understanding their cost structure, calculating gross margin and revenue generation strategies.

Oversees tools and resources for food businesses; refers members to appropriate internal and external resources

Tracks financial progress of members by collecting key program metrics. Prepares reports, financial statements and records program activities and progress for management or outside agencies.

Identifies workshop needs and oversees program curriculum to design and deliver monthly business workshops and entrepreneur exchanges on business, finance and and/or culinary related topics.

Recruits and advise workshop facilitators to conduct workshops for incubator members

Represents Hot Bread Kitchen at industry events to gain knowledge that will be helpful to program members including resource centers for small business owners and entrepreneurs as well as various funding and financing sources.

Participates in selection process of incubator members by screening and interviewing applicants; and provides input on financial readiness of business.

Helps ensure that revenue and business development targets are met.

Works with Senior Program Director to strategically plan the development and growth of the HBK Incubates program by analyzing the program curriculum and annual budget, and recommending corrective actions.

Evaluates program effectiveness and implements improved methods; works with Senior Program Director to devise and implement evaluation methodologies; analyzes results and takes proper action based on outcome.

Identifies and resolves problems and makes suggestions for program and system improvements and implementing change.

Works with Senior Program Director to develop own work plan in accordance with program objectives and needs. Works independently to comply with program work plan. Adjusts activities when needed to guarantee program success.

Performs other administrative duties and special projects as assigned.
Skills and Experience Desired:

Accounting or Finance degree; or 2 years of experience with the financial management of a small business ·

Entrepreneurial, business development, coaching experience and/or MBA preferred

Spanish fluency highly preferred

Advanced Excel and Quickbooks experience and knowledge

Strong interpersonal/relationship building and professional communication skills

Passion for helping food entrepreneurs and desire to learn about social enterprises

Flexible to work nights and weekends if necessary
